No sound on video

I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 10. I use it to record instructional videos for YouTube, so I record my PowerPoint from the laptop screen. The microphone jack quit working so I bought a new USB microphone. It works well on audio software like Audacity. However, when I try to use screen AND audio recording software like Active Presenter or Clipchamp there is no audio when I play it back, even with sound going full blast. I have tried exporting to actual video format and playing it in Media Player. Video is fine but there's still no audio. Yet, sound is great on YouTube and on my previously recorded videos. I updated the audio driver with no change. I even changed from lapel mic to a headset mic but still no joy. I am out of ideas.

I have used Active Presenter with Power Point and a hand-held mic plugged into the mic jack for years to make these videos with no problem. The only change is that I'm now using a USB mic because my mic jack finally has given out. It works great on Audacity. The problem seems to only be when I use screen recording software. Why would sound work great on audio software but not video AND audio software?

Any help is appreciated!

Gary

    Thank you for your feedback

Sorry, due to my personal situation, I didn't reply to you in time

As you described, your device always works fine when the microphone is plugged in properly

There is no setting to block audio input in win10

You can right-click on the volume button in the lower right corner and open sound settings

You can check if the input setting is for the microphone

You can also click the windows key > settings > troubleshooting > other troubleshooting > sound settings > run troubleshooting

Check if there is a problem detected in the audio

Hope the above information is helpful to you

    Thanks again!

The problem may not be the software because there is no sound on BOTH Active Presenter AND PowerPoint using the record function. Both programs capture the video but there's no audio.

Could the problem be with my new USB mic? Active Presenter always worked well with my mic plugged into the mic jack. However, the jack seems to be broken so I bought a USB that works great on Audacity--just not Active Presenter or PowerPoint.

Is there some setting on Windows 10 that could be blocking the recording of video PLUS audio? I quit fiddling with settings like that back on Windows 98 so I have no idea. This seems to require specialized expertise--which is why I am seeking help here.

I appreciate any help you can give.

    Thank you for your feedback.

Based on your description, when you are recording audio, the sound level bar bounces up and down. When only recording sound, the sound can be perfectly input.

This indicates that your settings at the computer system level are correct, so I may not be able to help you in this area.

The problem may be in the software.

However, since Active Presenter software is not our Microsoft product and due to my limited identity, I may not be able to give you relevant advice.

You can report the issues you encounter to the technical support staff of the software.

You can ask them to assist you in resolving the problem.

Hope the above information is helpful to you.

    Thanks for your prompt reply!

I also thought it might be software settings. However, I try to use "record" in PowerPoint the screen is recorded but my voice is NOT recorded. Yet, sound recording works perfectly when I use Audacity to record my voice WITHOUT video. (My new mic sounds GREAT!)

When I try to use Active Presenter to record my voice along with recording my screen, I select my new USB microphone. When I tap it and say "Test" the sound level bar bounces up and down. It seems clear that the software is getting the sound but somehow it is not added to the video.

I updated my audio driver with no change.

I confess that this one is over my head.

Help me Obie Wan Kenobe! You're my only hope!

Hello, welcome to the Microsoft community.

According to your feedback, there seems to be a problem with the audio on your computer when using video and audio software.

I think this might be due to some settings within the software itself.

You can try changing the audio output mode to see if that helps.

To rule out whether it's a software issue, you can try the following:

You can use capture to record video and audio.

Or you can try using the built-in recording feature in PowerPoint.

Try recording in both of these and see if your audio and video have any issues.

I hope the above information is helpful to you.
