Trekstor Surf Tab Twin 10.1 32GB - 2017

My mother got this tablet a while back, I don't know how well it worked out of the box but for as long as I've used it the sound has not worked. There's a little red X over the Speaker icon. I've tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times, restarted after and it's still didn't work. I also looked for the drivers myself and found a page with a lot of newer drivers for the sound device, they were cab files. I tried installing a couple of them but it says the target file doesn't exist.

I've tried driver booster too, that doesn't seem to find the newer drivers either. I'm at a loss for what else to try now.

    Hi memoryman18,

In fact, what really puzzles me is why, in 2024, your mother would choose to buy a tablet from seven or eight years ago, which makes me have to consider whether the merchant is dealing with inventory of unsalable items or whether some dishonest selling is involved.

I checked the github link you provided, it is not supposed to be the official driver download address, it looks like an enthusiastic user spontaneously organized and uploaded to github 8 years ago.

While I tend to believe that the github driver might be available, there doesn't seem to be an audio driver in the directory. Or maybe I don't know how the driver should be deployed on your computer (since it doesn't appear to be an exe application that can be installed directly) because it's not a Microsoft product.

I still think that if you want an official driver, you should contact the seller of the device, because the seller usually works with the manufacturer of the device, and they should share the driver information so that the seller can provide it to the consumer.

The second link you provide is also an unofficial source, which may cause errors if you download and install the Intel SST Audio Device (WDM) driver. Because the device model does not match, unless you can find a solution to confirm that the model driver is suitable for your tablet, but the problem is that we can not confirm this, only the official support of Trekstor can confirm this.

The third link is to the Microsoft Update Catalog site, and although this is indeed a Microsoft site, you are still searching by "Intel SST Audio Device (WDM)" and it is difficult to confirm that the drivers you download here are suitable for your tablet device.

In response to the need to downgrade Windows that you mentioned here, from an official point of view, unfortunately, there is no way, because Microsoft officially does not have older versions of Windows to download and install. If Trekstor has dropped support for this type of device, and we are unable to provide you with an older version of the system through official channels, and we are unable to downgrade the current version of the system, perhaps I can only suggest that you find some user-made older version installation media online and try to use them to reinstall your system.

But if this is a new tablet, perhaps you can negotiate a return or exchange with the merchant? As long as your device is within a refundable period.

Alternatively, I might be able to suggest that you try resetting the device back to factory Settings and perhaps the audio driver issue can be resolved:

To prevent data loss, back up data in advance.

But let me emphasize again that if you want to get a driver or system media for the device model, the only correct source is still to try to contact Trekstor, unless they have explicitly stated that the device model is no longer supported.

    Hello memoryman18,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

The volume icon shows an X to indicate that the device lacks the appropriate driver. Although I notice that you seem to have tried to reinstall the driver, the issue has not been resolved.

After our long search for the device model you offered here, I only found this:

    Online Repair Service TREKSTOR (infotip-rts.com)

Disclaimer: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate and safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

This appears to be the official website of Trekstor, but all the links are no longer accessible. I guess maybe Trekstor officially doesn't seem to provide technical support for this type of device anymore?

Can you provide your driver source address? If possible, perhaps we can confirm whether it is suitable for the equipment model.

If you can't find the official driver download address directly, I think you should consult the seller of the device directly, they can usually provide the appropriate driver download address.

Or maybe I can only suggest that you try to install the driver for your tablet with some third-party driver software, but we can't guarantee that these softwares will provide the right driver for you, because you are not using a Microsoft device and these software sources are not official.

    Hi Mitchell,

    I found this: https://github.com/onitake/gsl-firmware/tree/master/firmware/trekstor/surftab-twin-10.1-ST10432-8

I think there are drivers here but I'm not sure how to use them or the firmware, the page is also 8 years old.

I also found this page: https://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/trekstor-surftab-twin-101-driver/desktop/DA30D1E523894B8D9CBF364CF4278A2E

the driver is different for one of the audio devices. mine has "Intel SST Audio Device (WDM)" but instead of "Realtek I2S Audio Codec" I have "ES8316AudioCodec Device". Could this mean I have the wrong driver installed somehow or does this model just have a different sound chip?

but for "Intel SST Audio Device (WDM)" I found this page https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Intel%20SST%20Audio%20Device%20(WDM)%2010

I currently have the oldest driver listed here installed, but I can't install the latest, it's a CAB file, I found out how to install a cab file but the cmd window says the file does not exist even after checking and double checking the file path and then using a file I got that get you install a cab file from the context menu.

If I can't find new drivers, could I downgrade windows to an older version that the drivers work with? I only watch to watch video's on it, security doesn't mater, I'm not shopping with it.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Edit: I had a go at updating a different way with the cab file, found out you have to extract it first and then when you use "browse my computer for drivers" it should see the driver. but it still says I have the best driver installed. I've even tried uninstalling the driver and deleting the driver software for the device, still doesn't see it.
