In Microsoft Outlook, attachments are directly associated with the email itself. This means that when you receive an email with an attachment, the attachment is actually stored as part of the email content. Therefore, it is not feasible to rename attachments directly in Outlook, as such an action would require modifying the content of the email, which may affect the integrity of the email and the original intent of the sender. Although Outlook does not allow you to rename email attachments directly, you can manage and rename these files by following the steps below:

Download the attachment: first, download the attachment to your computer. This can be done either by double-clicking on the attachment and selecting where to save it, or by right-clicking on the attachment and selecting "Save Attachment".

Rename the file: Once downloaded to your computer, you can locate the file in File Explorer and rename it by either right clicking on it and selecting "Rename" or by clicking on the file directly and pressing the F2 key.

Thank you for contacting me, Aaron. I have tried this method. I am not able to click and drag. Could this be from the company wanting the virus scan to happen for downloads?

    Sincerely,

    Kelly V.

    Hello, Driveco

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

In this case, you can use the following steps to accomplish your needs:

    1. Scan and send the content to your email.
    2. Open your e-mail and locate the content you scanned.
    3. Drag the content to your Desktop folder. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.
    4. Right-click the shortcut on your desktop, select Rename, and enter the file name you want.

In this way, you can scan and drag content directly from your email to your desktop folder and then rename it without having to download and upload it again. Hope this helps!
