Custom install and new Install windows 11

Has anyone got any views.

I have been working with Microsoft for a while in Indexing and other issues ever since I upgraded from 10 to 11. it was working okay but with recent updates now I am on windows 11 version 23H2, got a few issues like no sound and I note a lot of web comments re HP and sound with windows 11. Been onto HP and until they do drivers to wuindows 11, I will maintain my no sound issue and they have no idea when or if they will do drivers.

Now option Microsoft has offered is to do a new install of windows.

History, a while ago someone did inhouse upgrade to my windows 11 (might not be right wording), recently they did a custom install, next they said could do new install.

Any ideas and benefits or problems in doing a new Install.

I appreciate until HP do drivers my issue with my HOP printer may not be resolved even on new Install.

Regards

Graeme

    Hi Graeme Stevens,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

The problem with the new clean install is that it will erase the data on the disk, which means that the user of the device will eventually need to reinstall the software and configure the appropriate software runtime environment.

Accordingly, the benefit of a clean install is that a completely new Windows system will be built from scratch on the disk.

    • This process completely rebuilds all Windows components, rebuilds account profiles, and minimizes interference from other software or services.
    • In some cases, reinstalling a different version of Windows helps to analyze whether the problem is related to a specific version of Windows.
    • After reinstalling Windows, your device will be in a relatively basic state before retrieving Windows Update. Retrieving and installing Windows Update on this basis can further narrow down the scope of analyzing the problem.
    • In some scenarios, it can be used to analyze whether the problem is related to the hardware itself.

If the device still has an update history, you can restore the device to a relatively early state for further observation.

If you eventually decide to perform a reinstallation of Windows, you can find information about it in this thread.

    Hi Kyo

    Thanks for reply.

With my very limited windows knowledge I guess I am basing it all on that everything was okay but after Microsoft did a lot of downloads of drivers and window stuff that when the error occurred. I fully appreciate that it may have been unfortunate that the hardware could be a fault, and this happened at the same time the downloads were done.

With code 45 the laptop does recognizes the TV via HDMI cable as this is what I use to view as the laptop screen is too small for me, but the sound is not getting through.

Not sure if I mention to you that in Device Manager there are no speakers in "Sound video game controller" or "Audio Input output devices" but when you click on view then show hidden devices they appear in Sound Video and game controller, but they are faded that where when you look at the properties, I see the code45 message. tried friends Logitech speaker and could not get them to work.

Computers can be so annoying when not working correctly.

    Regards

    Graeme

    Hi Graeme Stevens,

Thank you for getting back to us.

The possibility of error code 45 is that a Windows-compatible driver is not available or that the internal electronics themselves have failed on a physical level, causing Windows to no longer recognize the device.

The second phenomenon you mentioned may be affected by more factors, such as whether the refresh rate, resolution, cable protocol, and many other criteria match.

It is even possible that the graphics driver itself is causing the phenomenon.

    Hi Kyo

Completely understood what you are saying.

I was thinking that new install might clean up my current issues that I am thinking came over with the custom install.

Problems like on my HP laptop no sound even no sound on my TV which is attached by HDMI cable. In windows In Device Manager there are no speakers but when you click on "view" then "show hidden devices", they appear but faded and when you check their properties it says hardware not connected to computer code 45.

And display that I am showing on my TV, sometimes drops out when I move the mouse.

    Regards

    Graeme
