There was no "troubleshooter for File History" after opening: "Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Backup," i.e. there was no "Windows Backup" under Additional "troubleshooters."

2024-02-07T20:33:09+00:00 My external drive is connected.
My File History settings are set up correctly.
I have no "restore defaults" option under my File History advanced settings.
I have no "Windows Backup" listed under additional troubleshooters.
I ran scannow as specified and got a message that all corrupted files were corrected.
I subsequently ran DISC / Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
The Restore operation completed successfully.
I then ran File History again to back up my files.
The back up ran for hours.
I then checked File History on my external drive.
When I checked that, the data folder is empty, so apparently no folders were backed up.
I also got this error:
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\Elaine\OneDrive\Pictures\Saved Pictures. Error:(STATUS_WAIT_2 (0x80070002))

2024-02-10T01:19:12+00:00 Hi,
What is happening is completely maddening and frustrating. And makes absolutely no sense.
I had already removed all the One Drive files to back up from the list of folders to back up in File History several unsuccessful tries ago.
Because there seems to be some conflict between One Drive and File HIstory, yesterday, I first unlinked One Drive from my PC.
File History still didn't work.
I then uninstalled One Drive from my computer, restarted my computer, and then tried to back up with File History again.
File History ran for hours, and while it was in progress, I saw File History backing up some of my Documents and other folders that were specified to my external drive. As I have successfully done for years with File History. So, I thought finally, I have fixed the problem!
That was last night.
When I turned on my computer this morning, I was eagerly hoping to first check the File History on my external drive.
The back up did not complete successfully and I got the exact same error. Specifing the same One Drive path.
Could you please explain how this could have occurred? There was no File History saved on my external drive.
Despite the fact that it ran for hours, and I saw files being backed up on my external while the back up was in progress.
I checked several times while the back up was in progress, and I saw files being backed up.
These problems just started happening out of the blue in early January of this year. The only that I changed was that I switched to a larger 5 T external drive.
And I have been trying to back all my files for the first time to no avail since the beginning of January.
I have successfully used File History to back up files from this computer to an external drive for years, not to to mention on many other computers for years.
Help!!!! I am going crazy with this issue.

2024-02-22T17:17:33+00:00 Hi again,
I have made some progress, but my File History is still not working properly.
I ran the sfc and DISM again.
All corrupted files were corrected and the restore option completed successfully.
I then successfully cleared the File History cache.
Thankfully and unbelievably after all this time and effort, I was able to save my files for the first time using File History.
However, I have the settings set to back up every hour, but only my downloads and Dropbox folders are being backed up.
So again, my most important folders, documents and pictures, are not being backed up.
Is there an easy fix to this? I really hope so.
After all the time and effort that I have already expended trying to resolve this problem, I really hope that I don't ultimately need to resort to a clean install
to have File History work as it should.

2024-02-14T00:04:22+00:00 Hello,
Things are going from bad to worse.
It seems that there is something seriously wrong with my current installation of Windows 10.
As a reminder, one of your techs downloaded a new version of Windows on January 3rd to try to fix the File History problem which it did not.
That download took a lot of time as my computer had to restart multiple times, but that did not erase anything on my computer.
The problems are now compounding.
Shortly after I installed One Drive from my computer, all of my documents completely disappeared from my File Explorer,
That caused complete panic, as I obviously have not been able to back up anything to my new external drive.
I immediately called tech support, and the person was thankfully able to get my documents back.
However, my libraries are now all messed up, and I need to go through everything to try to clean things up. Some folders are now duplicated in my library, but that is not my biggest worry.
Given everything that has been happening, I tried to copy a new copy of the latest version of my documents that I could find on my PC to my external drive.
It took awhile because I have over 14,000 documents, but I got an error that those files could not be copied to my external drive.
Fortunately, I manually saved my documents on January 2, but don't have any of my work backed up since then, given all the problems that I have been experiencing and continue to experience with backing up. I manually thankfully also backed up my pictures on January 3.
I unplugged my external drive and connected it again, and I am trying to copy my documents again as I posting this reply to you.
Earlier today, I got a message that Windows was not responding.
So, I am extremely worried about what is going on with Windows.
Should I run scannow and the DISM again?
FYI, I tried to clear the file history cache and was not able to delete the configuration folder because I got this error message: "Can't delete configuration folder because the folder or a file in it is in use. File History was turned off at that time. Is there any other folder or a file in it that could have been in use?
After your techs took control of my computer on Day 1 or 2, I started getting a similar error message when I try to eject my new external drive.
It says that the drive is in use, when it is not. Several techs also tried to fix that to no avail.
My new documents again did not copy to my external drive. I saw files being copied while that was in progress.
This is the same as the last problem that I had with File HIstory.
Is it possible that my documents are being copied to the cloud even though I have uninstalled One Drive?
And, could you please let me know how to find the favorites on my PC?
I will try to see if I can at least save those to a thumb drive.
It seems that we are at the point of needing to do a clean install on my computer.
When you say that will erase everything, does that mean all of my programs in addition to everything that is listed under File Explorer?
If we need to do a clean install, can one of your techs take control of my computer to do that, and redownload the correct version of MS 365 again?
These problems have already taken up so much of time that I don't have to spare.
I hope to hear back from you and this can be resolved soon.
I am completely booked all day tomorrow and Thursday, and have very limited time for the rest of today.
