Any way to stop Windows 11 from minimizing randomly?

Good afternoon everyone,

Is there any way to stop Windows 11 from minimizing randomly? It mostly occurs while gaming (and usually at the most crucial times as well ;P) There is no pattern, no error codes, no BSOD....it literally just minimizes. I am a controller player (my apologies PC master race) and it has become very frustrating. I have tried about as much as I could find online and none of the solutions have worked (too many to list here). My PC should be more than capable:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

ASUS X570-P Motherboard

Gigabyte 6700XT 12 GB Gaming (Adrenalin 24.1.1 as of Feb. 24, 2024, preset for performance)

800W Topower PSU

WD Blue 500GB M.2 SSD (Windows only)

OCZ 256 GB SSD (Destiny 2 only)...Don't Judge me

2X 8TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 (Archive storage)

Deepcool Gammaxx 240 AIO

BeQuiet! PureBase 500DX with 6X InWin 120mm fan passthrough (Thermals not a issue)

Windows 11 Pro 23H2 OS Build 22631.3155 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22684.1000.0 (Fully Updated)

*PLEASE NOTE that this system runs 2 X 28" monitors in dual display, extended desktop configuration.

I am simply looking for a definitive answer to this problem, I figure who better to ask than the associates of the OS creators.

Thank you in advance,

Darcy

    Good morning Derrick,

My apologies for my late reply.

I have seen that this is an ongoing issue for quite some time, with no sure fire solution in sight. Your suggestions above have been attempted (along with MANY others). Some as simple as changing settings (Game mode on/off), right up to altering voltage outputs in BIOS and Ryzen Master. I really do not want to do ANOTHER re-install, as it is quite time consuming and didn't yield any results. The complexities of interpreting .cab files for diagnostics is lost on me (but I am trying to learn). Same applies to logs. Odds are that prior to throwing myself to the Microsoft Gods, I have literally tried everything that is posted online, some dating as far back as 7 years!

Though I am not a content creator, a dual monitor is crucial for me. I am "old" man (50) trying to keep up with "kids" (oldest is 33) playing Destiny 2. It is my first foray into live gaming.

I am at your feet, Derrick. Whatever else may be the next level attempts, I'm game.

Thank you for your response, time and efforts in helping this "grandpoggers" get a foothold!

    Regards,

    Darcy

    Good evening Martin,

Just a suggestion to help find the culprit of this annoying action, try using JocysCom.FocusLogger. From there you can see if it is indeed a Windows problem (Like me), or if it's a background app causing it (I hear Razer Synapse id the leading non-windows offender)

We can all agree, it is annoying as hell. I should be the only one deciding what windows stay up or minimized, through manual actions.

    Good luck!

    Darcy

so you identified it was a windows issue? can you tell me the fix? I'm not computer savvy and this has been plaguing me for almost a year. been pulling my hair out since Fallout 4's anniversary edition has not let me play(crashes at bridge in the intro) and the minimizing makes me think it crashed(or maybe its whats causing my crash?!)

    plzzz help xD

I do also have the same issues when I starts a game.
In my case I play valorant, and at random times my game minimizes to desktop.

Game dont crash, I can just maximize the window, and keep playing.
But when it happens 5-10 times / match, its no longer fun.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand that it's frustrating when your game minimizes unexpectedly while you're in the middle of an exciting moment. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check for Background Apps: Some applications running in the background may cause your game to minimize. Check any recent apps you've installed and see if closing them resolves the issue. And Perform a clean boot. Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.    These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.
    2. Update Your Drivers: Make sure all your drivers, especially your graphics driver, are up to date. You can update your drivers through the Device Manager.
    3. Scan for Malware: Sometimes, unexpected behavior can be caused by malware. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule this out.
    4. Switch to Single Monitor: As you're using dual monitors, try disabling one and see if the issue persists. If the problem is solved, it might be an issue with the dual monitor setup.
    5. Use Game Mode: Windows 11 has a Game Mode that can help optimize your system for gaming. Go to Settings > Gaming > Game Mode and make sure it's turned on.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best regards
