Duplicate Display Via HDMI Not Working (Windows 11)

Recently, this issue has popped up, where I cannot duplicate my display to a connected monitor. All my drivers are up to date. The latest (even the optional) updates are installed and still this is an issue. In the display settings, it only shows these options:

  • Extend these displays
  • Show only on 1
  • Show only on 2

Here's a screenshot:

I've tried changing settings, but no luck. Is this a bug? Kindly fix it as soon as possible as it's creating a big hindrance in my daily workflow.

My device is a Lenovo Legion 5 (2021). The latest version of Windows installed is: 2023-05 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5026515)

That's right, when pressing win+p the Duplicate option is visible, but it doesn't do anything when selected. It just reverts back to extend.

I finally got it fixed! This is what fixed it for me:

    1. Press Windows + R
    2. Type regedit and hit ENTER.
    3. If a message pops up saying "do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device" click YES.
    4. A window called "Registry Editor" should show.
    5. Locate registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\CurrentControlSet| Control\GraphicsDrivers

Right click on the folder and select delete then yes and restart the computer.

Let me know if that works for you. Good Luck!

My friend is having the same issue. I tried the win+P and selected Duplicate but it won't hold the setting.

I'm having the same issue. Duplicate does not work. Extend works, second screen works, pc screen works, but not Duplicate.

I've tried absolutely everything short of resetting my copy of Windows 11.

    Please help!

I wasn't positive it would work either when I found the fix on reddit, so I backed up my registry before trying it. Use the following steps to back it up before deleting:

    1. Select Start, type regedit.exe in the search box, and then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In Registry Editor, locate and click the registry key or subkey that you want to back up.
    3. Select FileExport.
    4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, select the location to which you want to save the backup copy, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name field.
    5. Select Save.

I haven't experienced any issues that required me to restore the registry btw. It's been almost 3 weeks since I deleted the registry entry.

Click the Window button and "P" at the same time, That will have a pop up menu and you can select duplicate.
