Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade bought in Microsoft Store fails to upgrade my laptop.

I have Windows 11 Home and purchased the Pro upgrade through the Microsoft store. I keep getting Windows upgrade failed Error Code:0x80070490. I tried using the generic key but that fails as well. My Microsoft account shows I paid for the upgrade Home to Pro, but it shows my Lenovo Laptop is still a Home Account. How do I fix this issue?

I resolved this issue by doing the following:

  1. Used Win-R and typed in prefetch and deleted everything that was listed.
  2. Ran Disk Cleanup and selected all listed files and deleted.
  3. Ran Disk Cleanup and clicked on Clean up system files.
  4. Restarted PC and tried the upgrade again from the Microsoft Store and everything completed flawlessly.

My system now shows as Windows 11 Pro!

Can you confirm the current version and build of windows.

Type winver in Search and select the top result. Post back the version and build details. You might have to complete a repair install using the latest ISO image file from Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

Yes I did. I disconnected my network cable and disabled WIFI. Also the properties for my PC is still showing that it is a Home edition not Pro edition.

Did you try the generic key while offline?
