Every each of my childhood games need old versions of directx espicially directx9.. when i try to open it it always says searching for required files and it starts to eternal search for hours. I use directx 12 but my system acts like i have missing files from older versions of directx. What my windows system do when i try to get required files for directx and play the games ? My windows system is ghosting me for hours acting like searching files. Even if it accidently opens a games it crushes 5 minutes later. I never could find a solution for my problem.

Im sure my system will be searching for files months later too..

    Hi,

I'm Rodrigo and I'll help you.

DirectX 12 is part of the system, you can't uninstall it. The DirectX versions do not overwrite each other, you can have DirectX 9 alongside DirectX 11 and 12.

Install this package to get DirectX 9 on your system:

    • This game needs more, but you should install the older DX files which MS left out of Win10\11 if you intend running old games,

because MS did not include the older DX files with Win10\11.

These are also available with an installer package. (the Web Installer will install 'missing' files but this package will also fix any corrupted files)

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010)

    • However, this game is too old for DirectX 9 which did not come out until 2002. It probably uses DX 7, maybe 8, so...

If you have not done so already, verify Direct Play is enabled in > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off.

This is necessary with pre-DX9 games.

    • Also... GTA2 also uses SafeDisk copy protection on the disc based version, which MS has been blocking since the launch of Win10.

Because MS failed to included a proper error message for when this happens, Windows tends to toss out a bogus DX error

when it blocks the driver (secdrv.sys) used by SafeDisk.

To run any disc based game that uses SafeDisk you need a noCD fix\hack, but looking at your image and seeing UTorrent I'll guess

you may not be using a legitimate copy of the game, which would already have a fixed .exe.

    • But wait ! There's more. Assuming the game will run on 64bit Windows...

To run the the original disc based version it seems you also need an 'emulator'

(I would guess one of these would come with a 'shady' copy). DgVoodoo is one option...

    • Using Glide 3D emulator with Vulcan is also said to work.
