Desktop Messenger is stuck on the "Getting Started" screen. I saw a video that says to remove Messenger credentials. Is this safe?

1. In Windows go to Menu Start and click in Control Panel:
2. Find icon or search for: Credential Manager
3. In Credential Manager click on Windows Credentials icon.
4. Find a Messanger , Facebook sessions and delete them by clicking on “Remove”

I just deleted the app on my phone and downloaded it again from the App Store. It's working fine now.

So I used that functioning phone app to somehow (FB has crappy HCI)—generate a code that I plugged into my desktop app.

That too is working fine now. Without a functioning phone version of the app I couldn't get the desktop version up and running but with it, it's working on both platforms now.

I have the same problem and have done these steps before. They don't fix the problem

Have you tried to check if is there any update for that application?

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the app already?

1. Please shutdown your computer and turn it on again and see if that will fix the issue.
2. Uninstall the Messenger app and reinstall it back.
