How do I turn off caret browsing on laptop?

Randomly, when I was trying to turn up the volume on my HP Pavilion x360 laptop, it asked me if I wanted to turn on caret browsing. I hit "canceled" and tried turning up the volume again using the volume button, but it kept asking me the same thing about caret browsing. Accidentally, I agreed to turn it on after declining several times (don't ask me why I kept trying the same thing repeatedly) and now, I can't use any of my volume buttons at all :(

Does your FN key on the keyboard have a small light on it?

If so, FN Lock is turned on.

If it's the same as my HP, you can press the Shift key to turn it off. Press the FN key and Shift turns it on.

If the above doesn't help, then which browser is this for? I'll post back steps on how to toggle this on/off in its Settings page.

Hi Courtney, I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand your frustration, I'm here to help. Pressing Fn + Esc is a common shortcut to toggle the Function Lock on many laptops. This feature switches between the standard function keys (F1 to F12) and their alternate functions (such as volume control, brightness adjustment, etc.). When Function Lock is enabled, pressing the function keys will trigger their alternate actions.

Do you have the option to disable it by pressing Fn + Esc? If not, please let me know.

You can turn off caret browsing again if you don't need it by pressing Fn + F7, assuming Fn + Esc is on.

Let me know how it goes.

    John J.D.

Test using the FN + F7 keys. Sometimes you may need to use the FN key with a function number (ex: F7) key on a laptop keyboard.

When I press FN + F7 together, I end up adjusting my volume. I still have caret browsing by pressing my volume button.
