Is there a way to permanently change a program/task's priority in task manager?

I want to change the priority of several programs/tasks permanently. When I open task manager > details > right click > change priority, the setting only applies until I close the program or restart my computer.

My issue is my mouse starts freezing when I have my browser open while simultaneously playing a game. I've tried every work around I could find through search, messed with settings in windows and lowered game quality settings, made sure drivers were up to date and uninstalled/re-installed them all anyways, scanned for malware with windows defender and malwarebytes, restored all overclock settings to default, checked hardware health multiple times, re-seated my ram, gpu, and pretty much every connection inside my case, reinstalled windows on a new SSD, tried using different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge), and I'm probably forgetting something. It's been A LOT.

Anyways, I found something that works. If i set explorer.exe to high priority, and my browser to low, then my PC runs fantastic. I can run a browser, discord, and 2 games at the same time with no issues. It's just a pain to go in every time I restart and change it.

Build Info: win10 64, i9-11900k, 3080ti 12gb, 32gb ram, 850w psu, 2k 244hz monitor, 1080p 60hz monitor

    Hi Wired_Peak,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

To permanently set the priority of a program in Windows 10, you can use the Registry Editor. Here's a general guide on how to do it:

How to Permanently Set Priority Processes Using Registry Editor - Microsoft Community

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

This method should allow your settings to persist even after a restart. However, keep in mind that setting incorrect values or editing the wrong registry keys can cause system instability. Always proceed with caution and ensure you're editing the correct keys.

I hope this helps.  If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
