feature updates win11

Hello,

I'm using Win11 Pro Version 21H2 from May 2022,

why do I not get versions 22H2 and 23H2 via Windows Update?

(I'm pretty sure the feature updates under Win10 were installed automatically)

Thanks for an advice.

Of course the question remains: do I really want these updates??

(with Win10 there were some problems after installing new feature updates).

After making that change and restarting your PC, run Disk Cleanup twice as explained below to remove the temporary files from the previous installation attempts, then the upgrade should succeed.

    Open File Explorer

    Click on your hard drive

Click the 3 dots at the top of File Explorer and select Cleanup

Let Disk Cleanup do its initial scan

Select Everything in the list and choose Delete

    Start Disk Cleanup again

Let Disk Cleanup do its initial scan

Very Important - this time in the resulting dialog, click 'Cleanup System Files'

Let Disk Cleanup run another scan

Select Everything in the list and choose Delete

    Hi, Dave,

    • I have downloaded the ISO file
    • I disconnected from the internet (I don't use 3rd party Anti-virus)
    • I double clicked the ISO

(then in file explorer there is a virtual DVD drive with a setup.exe)

    • but setup.exe does not run (neither normal nor as administrator)

    what went wrong?

    Josef

If you are currently on version 21H2, end of support for that version was October 10th 2023, so it would be best to upgrade form that version.

    Hi, Dave,

    thanks for your quick answer.

Before I follow your steps, my question remains:

do I really want this update?

    would you recommend it?

and is there a reason that I don't get it through the normal update process??

    Josef

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you are not getting those two feature updates through the normal Windows update process, your best option may be to perform an in-place upgrade with the Windows 11 ISO to bring your version up to version 23H2.

Please follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Windows 11 ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

    Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.
