Hi Community,

My computer has started crashing about 30min into playing Baldurs Gate 3. My CPU temp doesn't go past 65 degrees and all drivers and Windows updates are up to date. Any thoughts and help with a solution are appreciated.

Link to my crash minidump is here: https://file.io/1o1V08OhouAo

WhoCrashed is telling me the same thing when it analyses both the minidump and the full memory dump file:

Crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP (Full memory dump)
Bugcheck code: 0x139(0x3, 0xFFFFD283060BF020, 0xFFFFD283060BEF78, 0x0)
Bugcheck name: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
Bug check description: The kernel has detected the corruption of a critical data structure.
Analysis: This particular bugcheck may be caused by malware or a security product that does not follow programming guidelines. This can also be caused by memory corruption. This is possibly a software problem. There is a possibility that this is caused by memory corruption. Memory corruption can be caused by a faulty driver, faulty RAM, overheating and more. Read this article on memory corruption. Read this article on thermal issues

Using the computer normally for work or playing something less graphics intensive like Counter Strike using my Gigabyte 3070 GPU doesn't see the issue happen.

It just happened again but I got a different issue via WhoCrashed

New Minidump is: https://file.io/RhHOrUeHyF2y

Crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\030624-10046-01.dmp (Minidump)
Bugcheck code: 0x133(0x1, 0x1E00, 0xFFFFF8031212F340, 0x0)
Bugcheck name: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
Driver or module in which error occurred: ([0xfffff8031182a380](https://www.google.com/search?q=0xfffff8031182a380 "www.google.com")) (*Note: My full dump says featureId:11.sys here)
Bug check description: The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This could be caused by either a non-responding driver or non-responding hardware. This bug check can also occur because of overheated CPUs (thermal issue).
Analysis: This is likely caused by a hardware problem, but there is a possibility that this is caused by a misbehaving driver. <br>This bugcheck indicates that a timeout has occurred. This may be caused by a hardware failure such as a thermal issue or a bug in a driver for a hardware device. <br>Read this article on thermal issues <br>A full memory dump will likely provide more useful information on the cause of this particular bugcheck.

I've fixed the Baldurs Gate 3 issue hard crash issue, simply setting the video settings to medium/low, reducing screen resolution and limiting frame rates has stablised the game. Hope that helps solve the issue for others with this going around in circles looking for a way to play the game at high video specs without it hard crashing on them.

    Many thanks DaveM121,

This got the game running for about an hour but unfortunately it crashed again in the same manner. It looks like the older Nvidia driver? I'll try uninstalling it again and use another version.

Please find the new mini dump here if you have time to review it. https://file.io/xu2HiaIxK4YV

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Your minidump files indicate the Nvidia graphics drivers and also a virtual driver associated to VMWare caused the system to crash.

    1

Completely remove the current Nvidia device driver using the widely available free DDU utility, then restart your PC and go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturer's website to download and install their recommended version of the Nvidia device driver.

A slightly older version of that driver is more stable than the latest version.

    2

Wait to see if your system is stable.

if not, completely uninstall VMWare, restart your PC, then if you need to use that software, download and install the latest version of that software the developer provides.
