Downloads Appearing In Downloads Folder And On Desktop

Hi,

I had to reinstall W11 a few days ago and, since then, my downloads are appearing in downloads folder and on desktop. If I delete the files from the desktop, they delete from the downloads folder too.

I have browsed the Forum and tried a few suggested fixes for similar problems but none have worked.

On the advice of one contributor, I did a Command Prompt as follows.

This is all gobbledygook to me but I'm very good at following instructions. (That's what 40 years of marriage has trained me to do! ;))

Can I have some help please, I only want downloads to go into Downloads Folder.

I have also checked that my Browser Settings are pointed at the Downloads Folder.

Many thanks.

Thank you Sean, I think it was just a glitch which got resolved :)

Yeah, my comment was humourous too! Thank you for the wishes as well. You wrote some wonderful words there I must say!

Have a great rest of the week!

    Hello Sumit,

Thank you for your reply, that has worked!!!

I'm not sure which part of the process corrected the glitch but I now have downloads going to where I want them to be by default and they don't appear on the Desktop.

    Thank you again.

Congratulations on your recent marriage, it's a great institution that I wholeheartedly support. Society needs this type of structure. Of course, my comment above was 'tongue in cheek', humour is definitely one of the keys to a successful marriage along with deep respect and loyalty. My Wife and I have similar minds, she will often be heard saying, "I listen to Sean, then do what I want!" I will say, "I have a deaf ear. It moves from side-to-side depending on which side [my wife] is standing!" :)

    All the best,

    Sean.

    Hi Sean,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

4 months since I got married, and I can confidently say, Happy wife, Happy life :)

Back to your question - I wonder if it is glitch.

Let us start with Resetting Edge first.

Try Resetting Edge Settings using the steps below:

Click on the three dots menu button.

    Click on Settings.

    Click on Reset settings.

Click on Restore settings to their default values.

    Click on Reset.

Also, try turning off extensions to rule out an incompatibility with any extensions.

We will if it does not work, try restoring the Download folder to C, please keep us posted.
