Laptop not booting, stuck in EFI Shell, is the eMMC dead?

Geobook 3 won't boot into Windows 10, stuck at EFI Shell version 2.60, don't know what to do. Searching the net indicates could be a HD problem but no HD here, just a tiny 32Gb eMMC. Can these just die? If so, how to tell? Other than it's not booting up. If it has failed, does that mean all data thereon is lost? No way back?

And if it's not the eMMC, then what to do?

No, nothing worked for me and I must assume my eMMC is dead. Tried Hirens which could not find it, no boot options at all and although I got loaded with a USB Windows boot, there's no way in to a dead drive. Toast.

I'm no expert but your overheating issue sounds like a physical connection issue to me. Maybe worth checking.

So, if it may be that the eMMC has failed (a) is there any test to confirm that, just to be sure, and (b) is there then no way to to get anything off it? No way of accessing data?

If that did not solve this,, then it would be best to get a PC Repair Shop to check the BIOS, it may need to be re-flashed, or indeed the eMMC chip may have failed.

Thanks for the help but I've been in and out of the BIOS a lot and finally hit 'Restore Defaults' before saving. No change to the problem - it doesn't boot into W10. Stuck on EFI Shell version 2.60.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

It is possible for the eMMC chip on the motherboard to fail, but more likely, this is just a BIOS problem.

Boot into BIOS, find the option to restore BIOS defaults and apply that, save those settings and restart the laptop, does it boot into Windows normally?
