Hello, I am having some trouble Installing Windows 7 Ultimate on my old laptop, I had successfully installed the other things, but whenever I start up the laptop, it continues the setup, as it should, but instead of continuing with the setup it proceeds to say that there was a unexpected error and it needs to restart, then i press okay, it restarts but then does the same thing, I've tried getting past it but it keeps doing that, I've tried 10 times but get the same thing and nothing else happens, is there anyway to fix it? Thank you

Your question is unusual as you say you installed the "other" things but are having problems with installing the operating system.

You install the operating system first, then install programs, etc , then add your data, etc..

What exactly is the story about this old laptop, as in what was preinstalled on it, where did you get the Windows 7 ultimate from, etc.?

About the first thing you said, it has installed the things like features, programs and has copied the files and expanded them, but it cannot actually install Windows 7 ultimate. 2nd thing, I had got it off ebay, it was running windows xp, I downloaded the ios file of Windows 7 ultimate from the Microsoft website, I had extracted the files so I could run the setup. But I now cannot install windows because of a "Unexpected error" and continuously asks me to restart several times, saying the exact error message and getting nowhere.

Ok, so, do you recommend me getting a installation disc instead?

Why would you get that, as you already have installation media???.

    1. You do NOT have a License/Product Key to install and use Windows 7.
    2. Microsoft no longer sells Windows 7.
    3. We can NOT recommend anywhere safe to BUY Windows 7 from.
    4. Forget about installing Windows 7.

You install the operating system first, then you add the programs and data.

Unless you were upgrading an existing operating system.

But you mention XP and there is no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7.

It is done be a clean install of 7, which means you lose all data and installed programs as the hard drive is wiped clean..

You downloaded Windows 7 operating system from Microsoft on eBay???

Windows 7 does not come for free, no matter where you got it from.

And Microsoft has not sold Windows 7 for a long time.
