How can I set the start menu power button to restart instead of shut down?

I know this can be changed, but I can't remember how to do it. I want the power button on the start menu to show "restart" instead of "shut down". I know there's a drop down menu, but I want to set it and forget it.

Ok, based on your screenshots, these are not standard Windows 11 UI. Are you aware that you are using third party tools to change the UI? Any chance you might be using StarDock? You will need to change this in your third party tool, not via Windows.

So you don't want it to show "sleep" either?

You will have to go through the registry to turn off that option so that it will be only giving Restart option when you click on the power icon.

I don't want to hide it, I just want the button to say "restart" by default.

    Hello, this is Emily.

You will need to launch the Registry Editor,

    Go to:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Start\HideShutDown

On the right pane, change the "value" name to a 1 value.

This will affect the admin user as well. But you can always change it back to 0 if you ever need to turn off the computer.
