DWM Memory Issue (Windows 11)

Recently, I noticed that my Desktop Windows Manager was using more than 600mb of my memory when it was usually lower than that. I tried updating my graphics drivers, but it didn't work. I tried turning off the fast startup, but it didn't work. I tried a clean boot to figure out if it was one of my programs. None of them were causing it. As I tried more & more solutions, none of them seemed to really work, and I noticed when I cleaned the boot, as soon as I opened Firefox, the usage would go from 85-95mb to over 400mb. I also happened to notice that my Antimalware Service Executable was using more ram than usual and my Windows Explorer process uses a little over 80mb and sometimes over a hundred (I do not know if that's how it usually is).

    Hi CorrivalMars,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to learn that you're having problems with DWM memory being too high. In your description, you have tried updating the graphics driver, turning off fast startup, and tried a clean boot. I understand that the current situation is frustrating, but you deserve recognition for your efforts.

I noticed that your DWM memory usage didn't stay particularly high all the time during the clean boot process, it only spiked to over 400M when you opened the Firefox browser, which is most likely due to some issue with your Firefox, and I suggest you contact Firefox's official support staff, who will be able to provide you with further assistance.

If you still want to solve this problem at the system level, then I suggest you try the following steps to fix it:

You can try opening Fast Startup again to see if the problem still occurs.

The following options may help you.

    Disable visual effects:

1 Search for "Visual Effects" in the taskbar and click on it.

2 Turn off "Transparency" and "Animation".

    Disable the sysMain (superfetch) service:

1 Search for Services in the taskbar and open the Services page.

2 Find the sysMain service and disable it.

Download the RAMMap tool to clean up the memory:

Please refer to the link:RAMMap - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

I hope the above can help you, if you have other questions please continue to contact me, thank you for your understanding and support.

    Best Regards,
