    Hello, this is Emily.

    1. First, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options, scroll down to mid page, under "Additional Settings",Make sure "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello Sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended). " is turned OFF.
    2. Type netplwiz in the search on the taskbar and press enter, select your user, if the "user must enter a username and password to use this computer" box is NOT checked, please check it , click Apply. Then uncheck the box and click Apply. This will bring up a pop up window.
    3. On this pop up window, this is where most mistakes happen. Very important, erase the username that's prefilled. Username should be your entire email address for your Microsoft account. Password is your Microsoft account's password. Any typo here can prevent it from working. Then click OK. And back to the netplwiz page, click OK.
    4. Restart the computer now and it should work.

The advice given by Emily S726 does not reduce the security or privacy of the device and does not make it any easier for an attacker.

The only thing you may want to consider is that anyone with physical access to the device (i.e. can touch it and turn it on) will be able to access your data, if you trust the people in your house this is no problem.

All Emily's suggestion does is automatically enter the username and password at logon just as if you typed it in.

I have been involved in Computing before Microsoft came into existence and to this day I run Computer Repair Businesses, Cyber Security,, etc..

I do not use a Password to sign into any computer or operating system I have for my personal use, where others have no physical access to them.

I work in cybersecurity auditing, and I stand by my post.

Someone from the other side of the world can access your computer just as if they were sitting next to you. While you can't always prevent that, you can raise the bar, so they'll try someone else.

    LOL

setting the auto login only affects the device locally, it does not make it any easier (or harder) for anyone to access it remotely.
the only risk is if someone has physical access to the device.
