Win 11 black screen boot after using DDU

Desktop PC running Win 11 using nvidia 3060.

I play Apex Legends and use an app called VibranceGUI to auto change my digital vibrance to 70 in game and 50 out of game.

Few days ago VibranceGUI throws an error saying due to multiple different GPU drivers the app cannot start and to use DDU.

Ran DDU and removed AMD drivers. Restarted PC and it works. Next day it throws error again so I run DDU again and remove AMD and Intel drivers. Reboot and it works. Again next day it doesn't work so I resort to manually changing the digital vibrance. Idk how many times I did a driver wipe. But now my alt tab is really slow with the game. I play fullscreen and it's usually instant to alt tab but now it takes a solid 3 seconds.

Yesterday I alt tab out of the game and my screen stays black. Keep spamming alt tab but all black. The only thing that changes is the monitor sort of turns on and off the backlight (?) when I alt tab. I just force shut down PC.

This morning I turn on PC and screen is stuck on black.

I restarted twice in a row to try and get repair mode going with no luck.

Restarted countless times.

Unplugged replugged DP cable and power cable.

Pressed every combination of CTRL WIN SHIFT B.

Performed CMOS reset.

Nothing works.

PC boots into windows for sure, I hear the logging in sound (there's no password it just auto logs onto desktop).

    Hello, Jay Jay5

It seems that you were able to resolve the black screen issue on your original PC by reconnecting the power supply and pressing the power button on the monitor. Sometimes, these actions can help reset certain settings or connections.

Regarding the resolution issue, it appears that the NVIDIA custom resolution may have caused a problem when alt-tabbing from the game. By using the CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) app and creating a custom resolution through it, you were able to resolve the issue and avoid the black screen problem when testing the resolution.

I'm glad to hear that using an older version of VibranceGUI resolved the error you were experiencing. If you have any further questions or need more assistance, feel free to ask.

    • Removed GPU and SSD
    • Put inside different PC that I managed to get
    • Turns on no issue... So it's not the GPU/SSD that's causing the issue but I will still clean install the latest driver
    • Boot safe mode
    • Run DDU
    • Uninstall GPU driver and restart
    • Repeat for all 3 (AMD, INTEL, NVIDIA)
    • DL latest driver directly from NVIDIA website and install it
    • Put GPU and SSD back into original PC
    • Turn on original PC
    • Black screen
    • Double check monitor DP cable
    • Plug DP into different GPU port
    • Plug DP into MOBO
    • Still black screen
    • Throw hail mary and press the power button on the monitor
    • It works???????

I don't understand how reconnecting the power supply and DP cable doesn't work but the power button works?

    My monitor is a 1080p 27" that I upscaled to 1440p.

After getting it to work again it was back to 1080p so I went into NVIDIA control panel to add a custom resolution again.

When I press "test" it black screens and doesn't work until I turn the monitor on and off, reverting back to 1080p.

Instead I download CRU and make a custom resolution using the app.

    Now it works.

I think the issue was the NVIDIA custom resolution ended up bugging out when I alt tabbed from the game... I no longer have a long pause when alt tabbing form my game.

VibranceGUI still gives me the same error so I followed the link you provided and ran an older version. Works flawlessly, thank you.

    Hello, Jay Jay5

If you are unable to access the BIOS and cannot boot from a USB to perform a new Windows 11 installation, the situation does indeed become more complex. In this case, consider reaching out to the technical support services of the manufacturer of your device (for example, the desktop manufacturer or NVIDIA). They may be able to provide methods specific to your device model or suggest alternative solutions that could help resolve the issue.

If you feel confused or unable to solve this problem independently, it is advisable to seek assistance from professional computer repair services. They may have the necessary tools and skills to address the issue you are facing.

Can't boot into safe mode. Tried the above steps but I only get black screen.

How do I do a fresh install of Win 11 if I can't see anything nor boot into BIOS to change startup order to usb?

I don't have another PC to test the GPU.

    Hello, Jay Jay5

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It seems you're experiencing a complex issue with your Windows 11 system after using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). The black screen problem can be particularly challenging because it prevents you from interacting with the operating system normally. I suggest you try booting into Safe Mode, which loads Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services. If the black screen doesn't occur in Safe Mode, it's likely a driver issue:

Once in Safe Mode, you can try updating your AMD and Intel drivers to the latest version. You can download the drivers from AMD's and Intel's official websites on a different device and transfer them via USB if necessary.

And since you've already tried reseating the DisplayPort cable, consider checking other hardware components. If possible, test your GPU in another PC to ensure it's working correctly.

Regarding VibranceGUI, it seems the application has trouble when multiple GPU drivers are present. If you have both NVIDIA and AMD drivers installed, VibranceGUI might not work properly. A potential workaround is to use a version of VibranceGUI that only checks for NVIDIA drivers, which might bypass the error you're encountering. There are similar issues on GitHub:

If none of these steps work, you may need to consider an installation of Windows 11. Ensure you have backups of your important files, if possible:
