Hi, I am trying to install the Media Feature pack, but I don't get the 'Optional Features' option to choose when following these instructions on this page - Media Feature Pack for Windows 10/11 N (September 2022) - Microsoft Support

Instructions:

  • On Windows 10 N: Select the Startbutton, then select SettingsAppsApps and Features > Optional features > Add a feature. Find the Media Feature Pack in the list of available optional features.

I get to Apps and Features, but there is no 'Optional features' selection available.

I've tried to download the Media Feature pack from this site - Download Windows 10 Media Feature Pack (microsoft.com)

I've downloaded & tried all 4 versions listed there, but they all come back with the same error "This update is not applicable to your computer"

How do I get the Media Feature pack installed?

Thanks in advance

'Optional features' has been moved from "Apps" to the "System" category.

Please try the following, only if you have Windows N edition:

    • Settings > System > Optional features.
    • Click on the Add a feature button.
    • Select “Media Feature Pack”, and click Next.
    • Click Install.

Hi Ramesh, thanks for responding, if I follow your instructions on my build I can only get to Settings > System. There is no listing of 'Apps and Features' in my build? See screenshot. I did look at the 'Optional features' settings, but the 'Media Feature pack' isn't listed.

Also, I noticed that you said 'only if you have Windows N Edition'. I'm not sure what this is? If I run winver.exe it shows that I'm on Windows 10 Pro. See below

Can you please suggest something else?

Thanks Ramesh, but this issue came about because iCloud was asking for Media Feature Pack to be installed to use iCloud - See snipped below. It's saying that I'm missing media features. If the Media Feature Pack comes pre-installed on Windows 10 Pro, then I'm not sure where I go from here? Is there any way to check; repair or update the Media Feature Pack already installed?

    Thanks again

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

As far as I know, it's an iCloud bug. Many users face this issue, and I could reproduce it on my systems.

    Please try this solution: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-install-media-feature-pack-when-windows-11/cc703a04-a9d8-4272-8956-0c1abef4fb9c

Also, see this tip from WebDesignJedi (via Reddit)

    <quote>

I spent a good 4 hrs on this problem for a customer. I went through the lengthy procedure above several times. In the end, installing an old version of icloud solved it - I am not proud of the solution - I hate that I had to do this, but it works. Uninstall iCloud and then get the 2020 version of iCloud from here:*http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2020/windows/001-39935-20200911-1A70AA56-F448-11EA-8CC0-99D41950005E/iCloudSetup.exe*

If that doesn't help, you may ask this question at the Apple support forums to see if a resolution is available. https://discussions.apple.com/welcome?cid=gn-com-community-lp-get_help

    Ken,

Media Feature Pack will be listed only for Windows 10 N Edition. But yours is not an N edition. In the regular editions, Media Feature Pack is preinstalled and no option to uninstall/reinstall it.
