How do you sign in as an admin?

I'm linked in a family safety account. On my child's device they've been trying to install a game. However, as they are a member, they don't have administrative access. There's no "yes" option to download an anti-cheat for the game to run. The computer says "to continue, log in as an administrator", but there's no option to do so. I've checked through the computer's accounts, and there's a default administrator account, but I can't access on either the child's account or my own. I've tried looking any options up, but all I've found was how to give my child admin access on my own device and some instructions that require the "family and other uses" tab in settings which I can't find on my child's device.

    Hi, yaku sabogal

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

To sign in as an admin on a Windows device, you typically need to have the username and password for an account that has administrative privileges. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to proceed:

    1. Switch Users: If you're currently logged in on the child's account, you'll need to log out or switch users. You can do this by going to the Start menu, clicking on the user icon, and selecting "Sign out" or "Switch user."
    2. Log in as Administrator:
      • At the login screen, you should see a list of users. Select the administrator account. If it's not visible, it might be hidden or disabled.
      • If you know the password, enter it to log in. If you don't know the password, and you're the owner of the device, you might need to reset it using another admin account or through recovery options.
    3. Enable the Hidden Administrator Account (if necessary):
      • If the default administrator account is not visible, you might need to enable it. This requires you to have access to another admin account or to boot into safe mode with command prompt.
      • To enable the hidden admin account, you can open Command Prompt as an administrator from another admin account and type: net user administrator /active:yes
      • If you can't access another admin account, you might need to boot into safe mode with command prompt and enable the account from there.
    4. Access 'Family & Other Users' Settings:
      • Once logged in as an administrator, go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
      • Here, you can manage other accounts and give them administrative privileges if necessary.
    5. Grant Admin Rights to Your Child's Account (optional):
      • If you want to give your child's account admin rights, you can select their account under "Your family" or "Other users" and click "Change account type."
      • Change the account from "Standard User" to "Administrator" and confirm the changes.
    6. Install the Game: Now that you're logged in as an admin, you should be able to install the game and any necessary anti-cheat software without any restrictions.
    7. Revert Account Types (if necessary): If you've temporarily given your child admin rights, remember to change their account back to a standard user after the installation to maintain safety and control over the device.

Important Note: Be cautious when using administrative privileges, as changes can affect the entire system. Always ensure that you trust the software you're installing and that you have proper security measures in place.

If you're unable to resolve the issue with these steps, it may be necessary to consult the device's manual, contact the manufacturer's support.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

Thanks for this. I know the admin account is disabled, I've tried activating it before with Command Prompt, but it didn't work. I believe the answer is to use safe mode. I'm wondering if something is wrong with safe mode. I've tried accessing it twice by Shift-Clicking Restart in the Start Menu, but both times the restart last hours and nothing happens. I ended up turning the computer off in order to fix this. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough for it to work, but it seems strange on how long it takes. Am i doing something wrong with that?
