How to solve horizontal lines and blurry screen?

Hello,

I have this issue with my laptop for a couple of months now, I’ve had my laptop for atleast 4 years now but then my screen suddenly got very blurry and have these horizontal lines in the middle but aswell I’ve notice that the top of my screen is completely fine but the rest is very blurry.

At first I thought it will fix itself over time or if I stop using my laptop and let it cool down it will be fine but now I’ve been getting worried because it’s been like that for a couple of months now. So I have done a little research and found out that my graphics driver might have been outdated so I’ve recently updated the driver but nothing has changed,

I also found out by just changing the Hz, just by going back and forth to 60 Hz and 48 Hz it changes the screen a little but not permanently, it only becomes clear and usable for a while then goes back and becomes really unusable with it being blurry and having horizontal lines in the middle of my screen.

I’ve notice it’s been a software issue because in some of the research it said that plugging the laptop in a monitor to see if the screen from the laptop could have been the same as in the monitor and luckily it looked pretty normal from the monitor’s screen

I am just wondering if their is a possible chance that my laptop can be fixed or if I need a new one

If anyone knows how to fix this issue please let me know

    Hi Shea Morgan,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    Symptoms such as horizontal lines and blurring of the screen are in most cases related to hardware issues and in a few cases to driver compatibility.

    The results of your tests on external monitors can prove that the graphics card driver has no problems interacting with that particular external monitor.

    The external display is not physically connected to the laptop's built-in screen.

    The test results you have obtained prove that the external monitor itself is not faulty, but they do not in turn prove that the laptop's built-in screen is not faulty, i.e., they do not fully prove that the problem is software-related at this time.

    If you need to perform further troubleshooting at the software level, you may need to reset the registry keys related to the display configuration and then test an older (so-called obsolete) version of the graphics card driver.

    If the phenomenon is the same in the state of the more outdated graphics driver, you may need to contact an offline support store to check for internal electronics abnormalities, such as loose wires and aging electronics.
