Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
When you encounter issues with sound not working while mirroring your PC to your TV, it usually involves incorrect sound output settings or connectivity problems. Here's how you can troubleshoot and fix the issue on Windows 11:
- Check the Audio Output Device
First, ensure that the correct audio output device is selected when you're casting to your TV.
- Right-click on the sound volume icon on the taskbar and select Sound settings.
- Under Output, look for your TV or the device you are casting to. It might be listed as the name of your TV or as a "Digital Output" device. Select it.
- Test if the audio is now playing through your TV.
- Enable Digital Output
If selecting the digital output doesn't work or it's stuck on mute:
- Go back to Sound settings.
- Click on More sound settings or Advanced sound options to open the Sound Control Panel.
- Find your digital output device or your TV in the list, right-click it, and choose Enable if it's not already enabled. Then set it as the Default Device.
- Check if this resolves the issue.
- Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause sound issues:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section.
- Find your audio device, right-click on it, and choose Update driver. You can also try Uninstall device, then restart your PC to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.
- Inspect HDMI Connections
If you're using an HDMI cable for mirroring:
- Ensure the HDMI cable is properly connected to both your PC and TV.
- Try a different HDMI cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
- Some TVs have multiple HDMI ports; try switching to a different port.
- TV Settings
Check your TV's sound settings. Some TVs have an option to select the audio source, and it should be set to receive audio from the HDMI or relevant input source.
- Windows Troubleshooter
Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can automatically fix some common problems:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Restart Windows Audio Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find Windows Audio service.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
If after following these steps your issue isn't resolved, there might be a more specific problem with your device or setup requiring further investigation. Checking for any recent changes or updates that coincided with when the issue started can also provide clues to the underlying cause.
Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
