Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
It sounds like you're experiencing a connection issue between your iPhone and your HP desktop, which is particularly problematic given your need to transfer photos and videos for your work as a video creator. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue:
- Check the Cable and USB Ports: Make sure the cable you're using is in good condition and is an original Apple cable or MFi-certified (Made for iPhone). Try using a different USB port on your computer, and if possible, test the cable with another device to ensure it's working properly.
- Trust Computer: Each time you connect your iPhone to a new computer, it asks whether you trust the computer. Make sure you tap "Trust" on your iPhone. If it's not asking, try resetting your location & privacy settings on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy.
- Restart Devices: You've mentioned restarting your PC, but also restart your iPhone if you haven't. This can sometimes resolve minor connectivity issues.
- Check the DCIM Folder: If the DCIM folder is empty or not showing all files, it could be a permissions issue. Make sure you've allowed access to your photos when prompted on your iPhone. If you didn't see the prompt, disconnect and reconnect your device to trigger it.
- Use Windows Photos App: Instead of accessing the files through File Explorer, try importing them using the Windows Photos app. Connect your iPhone, open the Photos app on your computer, and select Import > From a USB device to see if it can access all your photos and videos.
- Disable USB Selective Suspend: On your PC, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Under USB settings, set USB selective suspend setting to Disabled. This prevents Windows from turning off the USB device.
- Use iCloud: As a workaround, you could use iCloud Photos to access your photos and videos. Ensure iCloud Photos is enabled on your iPhone. You can then download the iCloud for Windows app and access your photos and videos from your PC.
- Check for Interference from Security Software: Sometimes, antivirus or firewall settings on your PC can interfere with the connection. Temporarily disable these (be cautious about the security implications) to see if it solves the problem. Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off real-time Microsoft Defender antivirus protection in Windows Security. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once the issue is fixed.
Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
