Hi so I was using my laptop today and as usual I always use it on my monitor since laptop screen is broken and haven't really seen a point of fixing it. I went outside and left my laptop on, then later I come back inside wanting to do something on it and I try move my mouse and it doesn't work then try my keyboard and that's doesn't work too so then I force shut my laptop down holding the power button until it turned off. I turn it back on expecting to see it appear on my monitor but nothing was showing up including the usual windows 11 boot up sound I hear when to sign in. I'm assuming it's showing something on the laptop screen and I can't see what to press next. I've tried to press enter and use the arrow keys on the laptop and nothing has changed. Any idea how fix whatever the problem is without fixing the screen?

    Hi, NigelPop

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you have a problem that you can't get feedback from the monitor when you use your laptop. According to your description, it seems that this is caused by the interruption of the monitor signal connection because the computer has not been operated for a period of time after you go out. Before that, please check whether your monitor cable and external monitor can work normally. This may also be caused by hardware damage.

Next, please try to keep pressing Windows+P until you can see your system desktop on your monitor (Windows+P is a shortcut key to switch your display mode).

I hope this will help you!

    Sincerely

Nicholas | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
