None of us work for Microsoft.

The people replying so far are volunteers here; just other computer users like you.

    Me too!

If someone takes full advantage of what Windows has to offer, it can run very well on an inexpensive PC. In fact, this is the direction where Windows is going.

I mean storing all your files on OneDrive, and using the online versions of Microsoft's software to work with your files. This is the 'cloud first, mobile first' strategy that Microsoft is trying to get us to adopt. The online versions of Microsoft's software, and especially Microsoft 365, get more and more capable all the time.

When you work in the cloud, your PC doesn't need a powerful processor, lots of RAM, or a large hard drive; and it doesn't require as much hardware to defend itself. Google has already shown that this can be a successful platform, and many software applications, like Photoshop, are online.

There will always be users who need a powerful, expensive, computer. But for most of us, an inexpensive computer will do very well. Speaking personally, I would prefer a simple, inexpensive PC over a PC that is running an unsupported operating system.

Most people don't need the newest Operating System or the newest hardware. An older OS has security vulnerabilities the newest OS won't have, but you can take measures to mitigate some of those vulnerabilities. I had no security problems when I used Windows Millennium or Vista for a couple of years after a newer OS had been released. My daily driver at present is Windows 7 because of numerous programs I use that might not be compatible with Windows 11 or would have to be repurchased to install on Windows 11.
