Windows 11 fast internet but slow download speed

I'm having a problem where my internet speed is around 600mbps on multiple speed tests but I'm trying to download something and it is getting download speeds of around 20-70kbps for a 6gb file (I have run speed tests while downloading as well). My internet is connecting just fine and works very well for anything else. This problem only started today and i have looked all over trying to find answers but have had no success. I have run multiple antivirus scans (multiple different antiviruses), have had nothing else open, nothing else downloading, have tried going closer to the internet router (even connected with a LAN cable at one point) but all these efforts did absolutely nothing. I'm using a gaming laptop if this info helps.

Hi Joey, thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, have you noticed any changes before the issue starts? or have you installed anything that may cause the issue?

While waiting, let us do basic troubleshooting steps by following the steps below:

First what we will do is enable WWAN and WLAN services, these services are essential to run the Wireless and wired connection perfectly.

    • Open Services (Press Windows key + R then type in services.msc then click OK)

-Look for WLAN Autoconfig and WWAN Autoconfig> Right-Click Properties and set it to automatic (If it's already set to automatic, right-click then click stop then start it again)

    -Restart the PC and check

If the issue persists, run the following command in Command Prompt (Admin). Follow the steps below to do so.

These sets of commands will reset the internet connection and re-calibrate the internet settings you have.

    Press Windows Key + X.

Click on Command prompt (Admin) or Windows Powershell (Admin)

Type the following commands, and hit Enter after each command:

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh int ip reset

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    ipconfig /flushdns

If the same issue follows the methods below:

    Method 1. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

I had the same issue when I upgraded to Windows 11. What solved the problem for me is the following:

    1. Go to the properties of your Wi-Fi adapter.
    2. Disable IPV6 (by unchecking the checkbox with the Inpernet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6))
    3. Set the IPV4 Preferred DNS Server address to the address of your router
    4. Set the Alternate DNS Server address to Google Public DNS Server, in my case I set it to 8.8.8.8

This solved my slow internet problem.

    Hope this helps.

Doing the clean boot helped a little bit but otherwise, nothing happened. I have not downloaded anything that would slow this down but I tried doing multiple files at once and none of them slowed each other down. 1 file decided to load at 3MBps but the rest is at a new average of 40-90KBps. I could take the time to let it download but it would take days of proper internet, my laptop being on constantly, and watching to make sure they don't stop for any reason.

Hi, thank you so much for that information, in this case, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Kindly follow the steps from this link:
