Hello, Brock Ward
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
It sounds like you're experiencing a bit of confusion with your Wi-Fi and airplane mode settings. Let me clarify a few things for you:
Airplane Mode and Wi-Fi:
- Airplane mode is designed to disable all wireless communications from your device to comply with airline regulations. However, modern devices allow Wi-Fi to be turned back on while airplane mode is still active. This is why you can still browse the internet and watch videos on YouTube even when airplane mode is showing as 'on'.
- If you want to completely disable Wi-Fi while in airplane mode, you should manually turn off the Wi-Fi after switching to airplane mode.
2.5GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi Bands:
- The 2.5GHz band provides a longer range and better penetration through walls but at slower speeds.
- The 5GHz band offers faster speeds and is less prone to interference from other devices, but it has a shorter range and is not as good at penetrating walls.
If you're experiencing slow internet speeds on the 2.5GHz band, it might be worth checking if your device supports the 5GHz band and switching to it for better performance. However, if your device or router only supports 2.5GHz, you may need to consider other factors that could be affecting your speed, such as signal interference, distance from the router, or physical obstructions.
