You’ve entered an incorrect PIN too many times

My son tried to guess my PIN and locked it Windows 10. But I have opened documents and tasks which I can't lost.

What to do? (I curse this microsoft idiot which invented such stupid solution - there's many solutions - log on to account, 2FA, waiting some time - but forcing reboot?

I got a brand new CoPilot PC, set it up with my Microsoft account, and set up a PIN, which I forgot because I have exclusively been using fingerprints. Then, my 5-year-old started playing with the laptop, making multiple attempts with an incorrect PIN, and locking the computer. Now, none of the above options work. "I forgot my PIN" doesn't show up, and I can't use my Microsoft account password to log in (I have already waited more than 1 hour) as it only expects PIN and fingerprint, which used to work, doesn't work anymore.

What is a recourse? Is my 1-week-old $1800 Windows laptop bricked with no way to recover it?

Here is some feedback to the Microsoft Security Team: If the device is connected to Wi-Fi and the internet, why can't I use the Microsoft Account Password as the Fallback if the PIN doesn't work? Why can't I use the phone number and email address as a mechanism to reset the PIN?

I just want to use the password. If I have forgotten the pin there is no logic making it so I can only use the pin for the next hours! What half brained fool came up with that?

I forgot my pin, click to use password that's it. That's how it should work.

I cannot ever get the " I forgot my PIN" option. There is no way I can trigger the chance to enter my PW again.

"sign in options" are a happy face and a virtual keyboard. logically, the 'face' should work (as it is my usual method to log in), but

when I click it, I get the "Your pin is required to sign in " message again.

I am logged into my MS account on my desktop. Is there any way to change/rename/disable the pin from there?

    Hello SledgehammerPL,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

If you enter the wrong PIN code multiple times, it will indeed trigger a security mechanism to protect your computer and personal information. Typically, you will see the message "A1B2C3" below the password input box to restore normal access.

Alternatively, you can wait for a period of time (30-60 minutes) and then attempt to log in again using your account password instead of the PIN code.

Or you can reset your PIN:

    1. On the sign-in screen, select I forgot my PIN below the PIN text box. If there are multiple accounts on the PC, choose the one you need to reset.
    2. On the Enter your password screen, type the password for your Microsoft account, and then select Next.
    3. On the Help us protect your info screen, choose to receive your security code either as a text or email message. If you select text, type the last four digits of your phone number, and then select Send CodeLearn more about security info and security codes
    4. When you get the code as a text or email message on a separate device, enter it on the Enter the code you received screen, and then select Next.
    5. In the Set up a PIN dialog box, enter your new PIN and confirm it. Your new PIN is now set. **Note:**Make sure you’re connected to the internet by selecting Network on the lock screen of your device.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
