Screen flickers twice when hdmi is connected or when any project option other than duplicate is chosen

I tried to enable auto colour management which didn't work. Anytime I clicked the button, it would flash on, then turn back off. My laptop screen also flickers once. Since then, whenever I connect my HDMI or choose any project option other than duplicate, my laptop screen flickers twice before applying it. Before this, I never had any issues when projecting. I also have the latest Intel graphics driver. The refresh rates are also both 60 Hz.

    Hi, Amurps

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

I understand that you are experiencing screen flickering issues when connecting an HDMI cable or changing the projection mode on your laptop. Let's try to troubleshoot this issue together.

Here are some steps you can follow to attempt to resolve the screen flickering:

    1. Check HDMI Cable and Connection: Ensure that the HDMI cable is not damaged and is properly connected to both the laptop and the external display. Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out cable issues.
    2. Reinstall Graphics Driver: Sometimes, simply updating the driver isn't enough. Try completely uninstalling the graphics driver from Device Manager and then reinstalling the latest version from the manufacturer's website.
    3. Change Projection Settings: Press Windows key + P and cycle through the different projection options to see if the issue persists on all of them or just certain ones.
    4. Hardware Check: If possible, connect your laptop to a different external display to see if the issue is with the monitor or the laptop itself.
    5. Reset Display Settings: If you've made any recent changes to your display settings, try resetting them to default to see if that resolves the issue.

If none of these steps work, there might be a deeper issue at play. In that case, you may want to consider reaching out to the laptop manufacturer for further assistance or exploring the possibility of a hardware malfunction.

Please try these steps and let us know the outcome. If the issue continues, provide any additional details or error messages, and we'll be happy to assist you further.
