Hi everyone, I found a fix for this. My friend recently got an i7-14700K as well, but it only showed 16/28 logical processors. In device manager, all 28 cores were shown.

    Mobo: Asus TUF Z790-pro WiFi - DDR5

*Firmware was updated to support 14th gen Intel Core CPUs, following the suggestions from Mosken_L - MSFT

The fix: Follow Mosken_L - MSFT's guide first from 1-3, if it is still not working, follow this:

    • Goto System Configuration dialog (Windows key + R/Search bar -> msconfig)
    • Select "Boot" tab
    • Make sure the default OS "Windows" is selected
    • Click "Advanced options"
    • If No. Of Processors is enabled, please disable it.
    • Apply the changes and reboot your PC

Otherwise, if it doesn't work, let the retailer/manufacturers know and follow up w/ them

I hope this helps, good luck! :)

When you look at Task Manager>Resource Monitor, what is showing for CPUs? See the images of my desktop computer below. I have a total of sixteen. Click on, tap, or activate each image to enlarge it.

    Hello ,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Then please check the basic hardware information of your device. Win + Q to open the search box, type “msinfo32”, then open “System Information”, please take a screenshot of it and attach it to your next reply.

It appears that you are having an issue with your i7 14700k processor, which is designed to have a total of 20 cores (8 performance cores and 12 efficient cores) and 28 threads. However, you are experiencing a problem where only 16 logic and 16 cores are recognized, despite your attempts to enable all cores in the BIOS and through MSConfig.

Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. BIOS Update: Ensure that your motherboard's BIOS is up-to-date. Sometimes, new processors require a BIOS update for proper recognition and functionality.
    2. Advanced CPU Settings in BIOS: Check your BIOS settings for any advanced CPU settings related to core activation or hyper-threading. Make sure that all relevant options are enabled. Disclaimer*: Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.* If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.
    3. Driver Updates: Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers installed for your motherboard. These drivers are crucial for proper communication between the CPU and the motherboard.
    4. Contact Manufacturer Support: If the issue persists, it might be beneficial to reach out to the manufacturer's support for your motherboard and processor. They might provide specific guidance or solutions tailored to your hardware.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
