Sound recorder just disappeared from the [Start] > [All apps] listing so I now have to use Win key +Q to search for it to launch it. This proves the app exists and I even tried reinstalling the app but still does not show in the All apps listing. How do I get it back?

    Where is the hyped new windows 11 sound recorder? The one hyped by MS online with a graphical waveform display and the rest of it. SUPPOSEDLY it's included with windows 11 , but it's not. Apparently it was just another grandiose MS claim that never materialized. True to form.

    It's nowhere to be found, only the previous basically worthless old version. Where is it, if it even exists?

    Pathetic.

    Hello, RWFL

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

    Thank you for your feedback. If the Voice Recorder application has disappeared from the "All Apps" list in the Start menu, but can still be found and run by searching for it, it may be because the application's shortcut or registry entry has been corrupted or deleted. Here are some possible steps to fix it:

    Method 1:

    Open Command Prompt (Administrator), which can be done by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Windows PowerShell (Administrator)".

    Enter the following command and press Enter:

    powershell -command "Get-AppXPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register " $($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Reboot the computer.

    Method 2:

    Find the installation location of the Sound Recorder application. Usually it is located in the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ directory.

    Find the Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder_version_x64 (or x86, depending on your system) folder in that directory.

    Locate SoundRecorder.exe in the folder.

    Right-click on SoundRecorder.exe and select "Create Shortcut".

    Drag and drop the created shortcut to your desktop or to the "Pin to Start Screen" section of the Start Menu.

    Method 3:

    Open Settings (Win + I).

    Click on "Apps" or "Apps and features".

    On the Apps and Features page, click on Optional Features.

    Check to see if you have "Sound Recorder" or a related Windows feature, and if so, try reinstalling it.

    Method 4:

    Open the Windows Store.

    Search for "Sound Recorder" or "Sound Recorder".

    If found, try to install or fix it.

    Method 5:

    Open a command prompt (administrator).

    Type

    assoc.mp3=mp3file

    and press enter.

    Reboot your computer.

    If the above methods do not solve your problem. Please give me your feedback, it will help me to locate your problem.

    Best Regards,
