Can updating BIOs with broken CMOS be fatal?

So, I think my CMOS battery is messed up (although it seems to only be effecting the clock), and I am curious about this thought. I got an automatic BIOS update on my HP laptop months ago, and recently my CMOS was likely messed up. Someone said that trying to upgrade with a broken CMOS can be terrible. If I did get a BIOS update again, would it just not install, or would my Windows 10 laptop be a goner?

Updating BIOS on a laptop with a battery that needs to be replaced will not kill your laptop it is only if your laptop switches off if it loses power while you are updating your BIOS that will cause problems with your laptop.

But, it is important to replace the CMOS battery, because that tells Windows how to use your hardware.

Alright so upgrading bios with broken CMOS = it can kill my laptop? or it just a general reminder for me to replace it?

like I said, it seems only my clock is effected, no other issues

If you cannot open the laptop yourself, it would be best to get a PC Repair Shop to open it and replace the CMOS battery, they are very cheap to replace.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Honestly you should replace the CMOS battery on your motherboard, because BIOS performs many functions these days and is linked to Windows security, are you using a PC or a laptop?

It would be best not to update your BIOS until the CMOS battery is replaced.
