Win 10. Location of a dump file after BSOD ?

Win 10. I'm looking for the dmp file after the BSOD. I can't find any *.dmp file or Minidump/memory folder even if I confirm showing hidden (system) files. Does this mean that my Win 10 does not create them ? Thanks.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    1

When your PC BSOD's, does the percentage on the blue screen get to 100%, if not then the minidump file will not be created.

The normal location for minidump files is C:\Windows\Miniduump

    2

Click your Start Button, then just type sysdm.cpl and press Enter.

On the resulting utility, select the Advanced tab and click the Settings Button in the 'Startup and Recovery' section.

Ensure 'Write Debugging Information' drop-down menu is set to 'Small memory dumps (256KB)' and the Small dump directory is set to %SystemRoot%\Minidump

Then your PC should create minidump files when it crashes.

    .

    thanks for a quick answer.

My son plays Fortnite and I deal very sporadically with BSOD (only in this solo case, in no other, the integrity of Win10 or Fortnite is OK, memory diagnostics are OK, all drivers are up to date, working temperatures are deep in normal) . I suspect a game code bug and some conflict with the video card drivers.

I am unable to find any minidump folder no matter how hard I try. I have enabled dump file creation in AUTOMATIC mode as default, now I switch it to small mem dump.

By my own mistake I didn't wait for 100% during the BSOD but I just long press RESET to simply shut it down.

    Lesson learned !

    Thanks again.
