Background music in media is filtered out during video call

When in a video call (tested using both Discord and Zoom) background music from videos played (YouTube, etc) is filtered out when there is speech, from either someone else on the call or the video itself. This is extremely distracting as the music cuts in and out. I tried disabling audio enhancements, which solved the problem the first time I tried it. However, since then, toggling this setting has no effect.

Re-enable audio enhancements. That's a blunt instrument to "solve" things.

If you have a windows 11 computer and you have muffled sound or music filtered out, 99% of the problem is AI noise reduction. AI can do 2 way noise reduction (reducing noise from your friend's side as well). They are not in the usual places like realtek audio console so nobody can find them to turn it off.

There are also a bunch of AI noise cancellation like in nvidia broadcast, obs app, maybe even in discord app. Maybe the discord website doesn't have the AI noise cancellation but the discord app has.

There are a zillion different apps or audio configuration apps that will do this AI noise cancellation, you have to find it yourself.

    Dear Bauvais

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Regarding your question, first of all it is recommended that you set the noise reduction to low in ZOOM or Discord.

The second part is to right click on the volume icon on your desktop - Sound Settings - More Sound Settings - communications - do nothing.

This way the WINDOWS system will not actively lower the volume of your browser, if you need to adjust it you can adjust the volume you need in the mixer.

    Best Wish
