Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter is unable to see my Wi-Fi as it is a new gen 5G wireless modem, but it can still see others in the neighbourhood. After I first connected my 10 year old Asus laptop to the new modem it would often drop out and only a restart would pick up the connection, but now nothing. I've done all updates and even reset my laptop. I need a new adaptor or program that can update it. I had similar problem when connected to my smart TV and had to manually change a setting in it. This is a common problem with these new modems and older technology. do I need to physically change an internal part on my system

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 card can only connect to 2.4Ghz networks, it cannot access 5G networks.

If you open the router settings in your web browser, you should be able to set that to dual band 2.4G and 5.0G and then your network card should be able to connect to the router.

Otherwise, you would need to either replace that Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 network card or purchase a small USB WiFi dongle to be able to connect to your new home router.

Thankyou for your reply, and that was as I suspected.

This new wi-fi operates at both frequencies.

So a new dongle it is.

Could not get any support from Asus at all..
