Hey, me again,

I bought a new ssd hard drive and everything went fine for two days after i plugged it in and everything, but now after i left my pc turned on after gaming, unattended for an hour to take a nap i came back to “error 1962” again so me and my dad got into the BIOS and we changed the boot mode from “auto” to “legacy” and after that didn’t work we tried a few other things in BIOS and nothing really works, we checked every cable going in and out of the main board but they were fine. (also everything takes ages, while repeatedly pressing F1 to get into BIOS, it took a few minutes to get in, same with pressing F12 for the boot menu it just stays on the “lenovo” screen until we get where we want/giving an error again) So we just tried turning it on again but then it gave us

“pxe-e61: Media test failure, check cable

pxe-mof: exiting intel boot agent.

error 1962: No operating system found.”

So i checked the cables again but they were just fine.

Next we tried plugging in the usb stick with windows on it to get to “Repair your computer” so we did that and tried the startup repair, which restarted the pc and when it started again it gave us the “windows boot manager” (i’ll attach a picture at the bottom of this just in case) so we restart the pc and afterwards it gave us the windows boot manager again without us doing or pressing anything, so we restart again and try to get into the F12 boot menu which took a few minutes and we selected the usb stick manually but the same thing happened again, so we restart again and get to the boot menu and this time just to see what happens we manually select my hard drive but it gave us the boot manager again, so it won’t let us do anything really. (me and my dad do all of this over the phone btw since we live in different counties)

Also i know i should probably buy a new computer but i simply don’t have the money for that right now and this new ssd hard drive already cost me more than i’d like, which is why i’m so upset, and determined to somehow fix this.

please help, i’m so frustrated.

    Hello, Mara1601.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your feedback,I have read your description about the problem. The problem you are currently experiencing may be caused by the BCD boot file being installed in the wrong location, I suggest you try the following.

First, you need to enter the Windows Recovery Environment (winRE). To do this, you will repeatedly turn your device off, then on:

    1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    3. On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices show the manufacturer’s logo when restarting) hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    5. When Windows starts again, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    7. This time, allow your device to fully start up.
    8. Select Advanced options.

    9. Now that you're in winRE, on the Choose an option screen, select TroubleshootAdvanced optionsCommand Prompt

Thank you for your further feedback!

According to your description of the problem, you may not have correctly selected to boot from the USB drive during the boot process, so you need to re-select it in the BIOS, check the link below for the method of selecting the boot disk.

If you have tried the above steps and still have problems, then there might be a problem with the USB flash drive you are currently using and you need to try replacing it with another one and then proceed with the Windows installation.

I look forward to your reply.

    Best regards

Hey it’s me again, i got into the command prompt thingy over the usb stick with windows on it (had to redownload it onto the usb stick because it kept just showing me the boot manager instead of the setup) and did the commands you wrote down, and at first i thought it worked but then i actually read what it said and it said „Total identified Windows installations: 0“ So i turned off the pc and turned it back on without the usb stick just to see if mayyybe it would still work but it didn’t so my dad suggested to maybe just try to reinstall Windows with the usb stick and when i put the usb stick back in it immediately gave us the boot manager again saying that „the boot configuration file doesn’t contain valid information for an operating system“ which it gave us the other times too. Why is this happening and how do i fix it?

My dad also told me that i should probably mention that I always shut down my pc by pressing the power off button on the pc itself, i only just now got explained how bad that is, in case this is relevant. (i’ve had my pc since around 2020 so i’ve always done that until now)

    Hello!

Thank you so much for answering, i did the steps you listed above, but after turning my pc on and off again repeatedly and then letting it boot, it unfortunately only gave me the error code 1962 again, i’m not getting the “automatic repair” screen, any suggestions on what to do?
