Windows 10 + USB Hard Drive - "eject" button missing

I've mounted a USB hard drive and now would like to disconnect that drive. I've placed my cursor over the drive letter (that corresponds to the mounted USB hard drive), right-clicked - but see no option to eject said hard drive.

What now?

    Hi,

Kayece here, An Independent advisor and a user just like you. I will be happy to assist you today.

I understand that you are unable to eject your USB Hard Drive since there is no option shown when you right-click on it. USB Hard Drive or portable hard drive is not a removable drive like a USB flash drive. It can only be ejected from the icon in the taskbar. Can you check if there is a Task Tray 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' option in your taskbar?

    Stay Safe!

What threw me off was lack of consistency. When I posted this I had tried what worked before - hovering over the drive letter and right clicking to find the eject button. However, it turns out that different devices have their eject buttons located in different (obscure?) places.

For whatever reason if I plug in my USB thumb drive I can find the eject button by right-clicking over the drive letter and selecting Eject. But, if I plug in my USB hard drive the eject button is now located in the System Tray.

Another senseless Microsoft annoyance. This is why people use Apple Macs.
