This did it for me: https://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/plus/

I have no idea why Microsoft techs are constantly mentioning the Folder Options. That checkbox is never checked by default.

I my case some thumbnails were showing and others not (like what you mentioned). And the codec pack fixed it.

Try opening a video using Microsoft Photos. Then refresh explorer assuming you have thumbnails turned on. It worked for me, where I got thumbnails yet it is not working like it should. MS needs to fix.

I went through older MOV files and discovered that Thumbnails are shown on MOV files captured up to December 16 2023.

Thumbnails are not shown on MOV files captured from December 25 2023 and onwards.

Both files up to December 16 and from December 25 were captured with an iPhone 14 Pro so may be there was an iOS update in between.

    Now I discovered something more...

MOV files captured with my new iPhone 15 Pro which I've been using since April 22 show Thumbnails.

    Strange!

So with this I have to live with no Thumbnails on the MOV files captured between December 25 2023 and up to April 21 2024.

    Hi Rao,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Could you please verify whether the thumbnails are enabled?

    Open File Explorer.

Click on "View" in the menu bar.

Select "Options" on the right side.

In the "Folder Options" window, go to the "View" tab.

Ensure that the option "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked.

Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

Restart File Explorer or your computer if necessary.

    Good luck!
