Ram usage is way too high and create issues

Right now my ram usage is using 23 of my 32 gigs even when i only have discord and chrome opened

I know that windows cache files and other things but it should be able to "free" some rams for a game to run

When i boot my pc it's idle at 22 % which is much better, after a few hours (but not always) the usage increase.

Right now for exemple i can almost not have chrome and discord opened at the same time.

and on the task manager the "usage" and list of apps doesn't add up at all to the current ram usage

I'm a bit lost

You can try Clean Boot, which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can eliminate third-party software to determine if your system is experiencing any anomalies. You can refer to the following link on how to do a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

Disclaimer: Clean Boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, which helps determine if background services are interfering with your game or program and isolates the cause of the problem.

If your memory usage is still abnormally high after a clean boot, you may have a problem with your system. In this case, the best option for you is to upgrade in-place. The principle of in-place upgrade is to upgrade your system from the old version to the latest version by overwriting only the system files while preserving the original system and user data, thus restoring the normal use of your system. How to upgrade in place, you can refer to the following link.

i forgot to precise that i am on windows 10 not 11

but even trying to close apps it doesn't help, because the few that consume a lot of ram only consumes 1 Go

And the ram usage doesn't add up at all

What i think is happening is that over time ram is being used but never free-ed, so it pills up and more and more until it goes on the virtual mem where it just pills up more and more

I do not know what could cause it

Currently it idles at 40% (12.5 Go) which is "okay" as i guess windows take a big part but isn't visible in TM

The non visible part likely adds up to 1000 Mo "maximum"

so currently all visible app take around 5 Go, if i add 7 Go for windows it seems resonable

But when the top of the column say "90%" the list of app is roughtly the same, chrome and discord might take a little more but it's still ~ 5 Go of ram

So "windows" take 25 Go of ram suddenly ?

I simply cannot "reinstall" the os, i already did that twice in a few month so it's something else

    Thanks for the quick feedback!

In Task Manager, Committed Memory is the total amount of memory that has currently been allocated for use by individual processes or applications on the system. This number reflects the total amount of memory that has been requested by all currently running programs on the system, including both physical memory (RAM) and virtual memory (page files).

So, this number would be more than 32G, but what you say about 45/35.2G is very strange indeed if this happens, can you give me the full screenshot?

You can also manually close the app to free up memory if you think the current memory usage is too high, the steps are as follows.

Click on the three dots, then click on View and select Group by tpye

Select the app you want to close and click End task

After completing this, your computer's memory usage will return to normal.

    Best regards

i don't have a task manager screenshot right now, i have to hope that it happen again this evening

but i have this screenshot of "RamMap" https://i.imgur.com/Gm1PSS9.png

but i can "describe" how TM looked

Chrome and Discord were taking both ~1 gig of ram, and all the rest of the thigns running (and visible) were taking exponentially less

I think i calculated it was taking ~5-6 gigs in total

But something that was wrong was this

Here it say 15.5/35.2 Go "validated" which seems logical

But when it was causing issue it was around 45/35.2 Go, which doesn't make sense in any possible way

The other numbers didn't changed that much (i think) but the very first one "Used (compressed) was 22 Go instead of 11

    Hello, Oshida.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your feedback. I have read the information you have provided. You mentioned that your computer's RAM is overutilized, taking up 23GB of his 32GB RAM even with just Discord and Chrome open. This is indeed confusing.

I noticed that you have looked at the RAM usage details in Task Manager, could you send me these screenshots which will help me better understand the problem you are experiencing.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards
