Blue screen that says "software updating do not turn off computer"

I am getting a blue screen that says "software updating do not turn off computer." A mouse arrow moves around the screen as well. Realizing that this is not a good thing, I turn off the computer as soon as possible by holding down the power button.

I have tried a few things to clean up the computer but am unsure if anything addresses the issue.

The “blue screen” message I’m getting is not a windows upgrade. I believe it started with an interaction i had with what was supposedly a PayPal service. When i questioned them about their veracity, they hung up on me, and shortly after that this problem started occurring on an occasional basis.

I have downloaded a trial version of Malwarebytes and adwcleaner, and run scans from both of those. That was last night. So far i have not seen the blue screen, however, it only happened once in a while. I am hoping someone who has had this similar problem and successfully conquered, it might be able to help me.

    The program is "Screenconnect.exe"

I uninstalled the program using Windows 10 and Windows 10 said it was gone.

However it was not fully uninstalled.

    I found the program in C:/users/your name/AppData/Local/2.0/RKZX/L59.157/LD8

I suggest that you search for screenconnect.clientservices.exe and screenconnect.windowsclient.exe before unistall by Windows

on your computer once you find them, delete all the files in the folder location. It is located on another area of your disk other than programs.

I would do this soon because the people will be back on your computer looking for something that they can use while the blue screen UPDATING PROGRAM DO NOT RESTART. When this screen comes up, always turn of your computer and reboot.

    Good luck!

I have an answer. I searched through the items in my start up folder(s, not just the programs that start when you start up, but check everything! I found an .exe item that did not look familiar. I was hesitant to delete it, but I figured that could easily be fixed.

Anyway, it solved the blue screen mystery problem! Never saw it again!

And yes, it all starts with a bogus connection with Pay Pal! If you ever have to call them, don’t call from a link, look them up yourself.

I responded to a PayPal email and thought that I was talking to PayPal about a resolution to a charge on the account.

They installed a program called ScreenConnect on my Windows 10 computer. Then they took control of my computer stating that the program would allow me to keep this user from charging anything to my PayPal account in the future. All of this was bogus. I stopped them for using my computer when this bluescreen stating that "update in progress do not restart your computer" The bogus PayPal rep was on the phone with me. I told him I was uncomfortable having them use my computer. After a minute or so of not being satisfied with his answers I killed the computer by turning it off.

I deleted the program ScreenConnect and thought that would solve the problem. The blue screen Updating came back. Today I turned off Remote Access, but the bluescreen came back on several times and I turned the computer off each time. The program is not in my program list. The program seems to work in the background. Today when I turned the system off because of the blue screen "Updating" happened for the third time. The programs running were explorer and a spreadsheet program containing my internet passwords.

It would be nice to have a resolution to this problem, because I think I have been hacked, but MalwareBytes and McCaffe both do not show any malware.

So, MICROSOFT do you have any ideas? I have tried to see programs running upon shutdown but there are no answers there as to the program being used to take over my computer with the blue UPDATING screen.

Does anyone have any answers to this?

It's good to see you've already begun by running scans with Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner. To address the potential security risk, monitor for BSODs and error messages. Run full scans with Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, and updated antivirus. Remove suspicious recent programs. Update drivers and Windows. If issues persist, consider a system restore before the PayPal interaction.

Feel free to ask if you have questions. Thank you.
