Hi All,

We want to know, if we only want to use the Build Tools, will this require a Visual Studio license?

    Hi @Dmitriy Ushakov ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Use of the Build Tools require a valid Visual Studio license.

If you can use the Visual Studio Community for free, you can also use the Build Tools with a valid free license.
If you cannot use the Visual Studio Community, you need to use the Build Tools with a valid paid license.

    Sincerely,
    Anna

As I was looking for the answer of a bit similar question and came here, but then found out the opposite answer, I wanted to add it here, in case some future reader is interested:

If you already have (e.g.) one paid license for a Visual Studio developer, this developer and any other person (without a VS license) is allowed to use the VS Build Tools on any other machine to compile and build the projects that were created with that licensed Visual Studio.

That is at least what I read from "Example 1" in the "Visual Studio Build Tools" section of the "Microsoft Visual Studio Licensing Whitepaper"
