Hello: Is it possible to use Power Rename or PowerToys to rename photo files with a prefix of date taken? I can get the current date as a prefix to my file name, but can't find how to get the date taken. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there,

Please use the Bulk Rename Utility. It's probably the easiest method.

Bulk Rename Utility - Free File Renaming Software: https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

Bulk Rename Utility • View topic - How do I add date time exif info to front of filename:

    SCREENSHOTS

    1. From the Renaming Options menu, click ID3 / Exif Data / File Properties, and enable "Extract Exif Data (Photos)"

    1. Configure the Auto Date settings to add the "date taken" prefix.

Thank you very much for you reply!

    I have a couple questions.

    1. When I started with the screen shots, I was not on the folder I wanted to use to practice with; how do you remove the the files from the name box; when I selected delete, it deleted the files from the folder in explorer.
    2. In the second step to "Configure the Auto Date...."'; how do you get that box to come up? I can't find it.

    Thanks!

    1. The files can't be removed from that box. You need to select the files (using Ctrl and mouse click on an item) you want to rename.
