Hi Soumyadeep! If you've deleted the file you mentioned, there shouldn't be any major problem. As a recommendation, always be cautious when downloading files from the internet. As long as you trust the source, there shouldn't be any major issue, or if it's from an independent developer, verify their reputation.

If you have any other questions, remember you can always make a new post in the Microsoft community. Regards.

Hi Soumyadeep! Thank you for staying in touch. Initially, it's not possible to determine whether what you deleted was a false positive or not without the complete information. As mentioned in my previous message, it depends on the exact detection made by the antivirus. If you didn't execute the file and simply deleted it, you shouldn't have any problems.

Keep in mind that a false positive occurs when a file or application is legitimate but can be interpreted as a threat due to some of its configurations or content (application connection, VB code writing, automatic scripts, etc.). Based on the initial description you provided, where the file had a 3/72 threat ratio, it's most likely a false positive. Additionally, the fact that Windows Defender didn't detect it is a possible indication of this.

Let me know if the shared information has been helpful. Regards.

Hi Soumyadeep! My name is David. I am a user of Microsoft products like you, and it is a pleasure to greet you.

I understand you have doubts about whether one of your files may be considered a false positive or not after scanning it with VirusTotal. It's possible that it could be a false positive, considering there's a 3/72 margin where it's identified as a threat.

Keep in mind that the virus databases of various antivirus service providers differ from each other, although they may share a majority of them. According to some patterns they've been trained on, some are a bit more radical than others, and even the slightest behavior that may be normal could trigger a threat detection.

It's also important to know the type of detection your antivirus generates, as this can give a clue as to whether it's a false positive or not. If you can currently manipulate your file and handle it without issues on Windows, and based on the information you've shared, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you have more doubts, please share the complete information about what VirusTotal has detected in your file. I hope the shared information is helpful. Regards.
