Auto-brightness in Windows 11

I have a laptop running Windows 11. Sometimes it will automatically dim the screen which I don't want as I want the screen to be always bright (whether it's plugged in or on battery). In Windows SETTINGS > BRIGHTNESS there is no option to control auto-brightness, though I have found websites that instruct differently. Likewise, I can't see anything in POWER SETTINGS to change auto-brightness.

What do I need to do to stop my laptop automatically dimming the screen?

Web article that makes reference to functions that aren't on my version of Windows 11: How to Turn Off Auto Brightness in Windows 11 (windowsloop.com)

What I see in my settings:

None of the steps worked or had the content that you described.

The ADVANCED power settings don't have an option for adaptive brightness.

The Intel Graphics command centre (power) has no relevant options either.

Likewise, I couldn't find any settings when I pressed F2 at boot sequence.

I have the same issue with this random auto dimming.

HDR on in windows 11 and in monitor, connected to RTX 3060 Ti Dp 1.4 on HP Omen 25L and when i open any window with white background the monitor stay bright for about 7-10 seconds, sometimes for few minutes and then dims itself by 30-40% and when i minimize the window and reopen it, the same thing happens, screen stays bright for few seconds and dims itself.

I’ve read the manual but no reasonable solution there about this issue. Same thing happens on 160 or 144Hz, my Nvidia drivers are the newest ones and so is windows. Anyone experienced this issue or has a solution? ACm is OFF, HDR is AUTO, Adaptive Dimming is Average (makes no difference in other modes), DDC is OFF, DSC is ON.

I've disabled that service but nothing changed. I cannot find the Auto brightness option in my Win11 either so i don't know if its the monitor or windows at this point..

Venom (the manufacturer) advised me that because my power setting was on BALANCED, the brightness was being adjusted to save battery life. I have since changed the setting to HIGH PERFORMANCE and have had no issue since doing this.

You could try this temporary solution: Hit the Windows key + R keys at the same time, then type services.msc.

    Look for “Display Enhancement Service”.

Right click, select “Stop” Then Double click and in “Startup type” select “Disabled”.

    Restart the computer

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Your issue may be related to Intel's Display Power Saving Technology (DPST). Disabling it can potentially resolve the problem. Here are steps to disable DPST:

    1. Check Power Options:
      • Press Win + X and select Power Options.
      • Click Change plan settings for your current power plan.
      • Click Change advanced power settings.
      • Expand the Display section and locate Enable adaptive brightness.
      • Set both On battery and Plugged in values to Off.
    2. Intel Graphics Command Center:
      • Open the Intel Graphics Command Center app.
      • Navigate to the Power section.
      • Disable any options related to Display Power Saving Technology or Content Adaptive Brightness Control.
    3. Intel Graphics Control Panel:
      • Right-click on the desktop and open Intel Graphics Properties.
      • Go to the Power tab.
      • For both On Battery and Plugged In power sources, set Display Power Saving Technology to Disable.
    4. Update/Rollback Graphics Drivers:
      • If the above options are not available, consider updating or rolling back your Intel graphics drivers:
        • Open Device Manager.
        • Expand Display adapters and right-click your Intel graphics adapter.
        • Select Update driver or Roll Back driver.
    5. BIOS Settings:
      • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, Del, etc., on boot).
      • Look for an option like Dynamic Backlight Control under the Video section.
      • Disable this setting if available.

By following these steps, you can disable Intel's DPST and potentially resolve the issue you're experiencing with screen brightness adjustments.

Please do let me know if the method I suggested works for you or if you need further assistance.
