Cant change default app to open .pdf files

I am trying to set adobe acrobat as default program to open .pdf files. I have adobe pdf reader installed on my PC. I right click .pdf file. It has Opens With: listed as Microsoft Edge. I click the change button then select Adobe Acrobat and hit select default button, but nothing happens. Microsoft Edge remails as a default program. I think this is a bug. Can you fix it?

    I had similar issues the past couple days. I was initially not able to change the default program to open PDFs. I tried doing 'open with' and setting a new default, and I tried changing the default in the windows 11 settings program. At some point I received a similar message to others where windows that an app default was reset.

    Anyway, I did get the setting to take by doing the following:

    1. Close Edge and Adobe PDF reader (or whatever PDF reader you're trying to use).
    2. now set the default program
    3. confirm it actually changed the default program (windows settings->apps->default apps->.pdf file type
    4. If it did, enjoy being able to use a real PDF viewer like you're used to without jumping through additional hoops

    We'll see if the settings stick around.

    Same here.

    I was fine earlier in the morning but I had to reboot windows due to an update and then this happened. I had a different default pdf app ever since. After reboot, all pdf files now defaults with Edge. And no, it will not change no matter what I do.

    I did that and it didnt work. Default app remains Edge. Anything else I can do? I think this is a bug

    This is not an Adobe issue as I use a different PDF reader (PDF XCHANGE) and this same thing randomly started for me in the afternoon after working all day with it being normal. I can't change it from Edge now at all now. Every app I select to change to says there is an error so this is a windows issue.

    Same issue here. Changing the default app in settings does nothing. If I select chrome, Edge remains as the default app. If I right click and hit open with chrome and select "always", it will open with chrome once but immediately go back to Edge. Selecting default app by file type, hitting choose app on PC, and selecting the .exe file doesn't help either. Extremely annoying bug. Will be following this thread for help.
