How do I uninstall McAfee Security Scan Plus from Windows 10 PC?

HELP! I did not know I was installing McAfee Security Scan Plus when I installed "free" Acrobat Reader! I have tried everything to uninstall and remove it! I already have antivirus software and this slows the computer down. How do I get rid of it?

    I believe when I recently downloaded Adobe Reader to my wife's computer I also downloaded the McAfee Security Scan tool.

    I tried all the recommended methods to remove this bugger.

    (1) normal Windows -> Settings -> Apps -> Uninstall....did not work, all it did was open a splash screen that would only give me a link to the McAfee website to purchase a subscription...

    (2) I downloaded the McAfee removal tool...when I ran the executable, it seemed like it was working, but after rebooting, as I was instructed by the program, Security Scan was still there

    (3) next, I tried the Uninstall executable in Program(X86)/McAfee Security Scan directory, I ran that but all that did was open that splash screen again...

    (4) The Wooden Stake...It appeared to me the this program was reinstalling itself. So, I found these (3) files in the Program(X86)/McAfee Security Scan/4.1.491 directory and manually deleted them...

    McinstallerRes.dll

    McinstallerRes_LD.dll

    McinstallerStartup.dll

    (4a) then I ran the uninstaller program in the Program(X86)/McAfee Security Scan director and the uninstaller removed the pesky little bugger...wooden stake, silver bullet, and some holy water

    Is it safe? After using the free Acrobat Reader and ending up with this awful McAfee, I am very leary of free software?

    It will not uninstall that way have tried and tried before I went on Microsoft.
