Chrome's tab group icons are enlarged

(Hello, reposting from Google Chrome Help since I got no replies, so I was wondering if it's a Windows issue/feature. The post was locked and got 19 upvotes.) (This occured on Dec 6th 2023.)

The icons of my Chrome tab groups have WIDENED. I'm not sure when this happened or what I did to make this happen.

Before I realized my tab groups were like this, I was screwing around with a legitmitate app (aka not a virus or anything that's dangerous) and set it to admin then reverted back, and restarted my laptop to add a language to my system locale, so I don't know if it was like that before or after I did those things.

Picture of before and after (resolutions are different but you can see the change):

  • I re-enabled then disabled Chrome's UI refresh but that did not change anything
  • Changing text size via my system settings did not affect it
  • New groups also look like this
  • I don't want to reset any settings to default

Thank you for commenting, unfortunately neither of these seem to work!

The first method scaled everything smaller (basically the same with no change, other than the fact everything was tiny).
For the second one, I couldn't find "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings", instead there were these screens. I tried the "Override high DPI" by Application but it didn't seem to do anything (I even opened Chrome from the shortcut and not the taskbar) so I'm not sure that was related... x_x

    Hello what ever3

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

To solve the issue of enlarged icons in Chrome tab groups, you might try the following methods:

    1. Right-click on the Google Chrome shortcut or start menu icon and select properties. Enter the following code at the end of the text in the Target field: /high-dpi-support=1 /force-device-scale-factor=1 Make sure there’s a blank space between the .exe” part and the first forward slash, like shown in the picture above. Hit Apply and then restart Chrome. If the scaling isn’t back to normal, make sure to launch Chrome from the location specified above. For example, it didn’t work at first for me because I was opening Chrome from a link pinned to the taskbar. Unpinning Chrome and dragging it back from the start menu fixed the problem, but it’s not a permanent fix anyway because other links to Chrome (like hyperlinks in PDFs) can trigger the larger UI as well.
    2. In Windows, right-click on the Chrome icon, select "Properties" > "Compatibility," and check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings."

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

    Hello

If there is only one software exception on your computer, it is most likely a problem with that software. I suggest you contact the software developers. They are more familiar with their products and can provide more targeted and professional answers.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

    Best Regards
